The Rough and Ready 4-H Club will hold its Christmas
Party on Dec, 16, at the Community Hall at 7:30 p.m, As.is
their custom, they have invited the entire community to participate in their celebration of our Saviors birthday. The club

members are preparing a lively Christmas skit. The adultleaders, Mrs, Burkhard and Mrs. Small have arranged for
Santa to be there, in person, with gifts for everyone even us old
folks. The Newcomers Lyric Ensemble, sponsored by the
Rough and Ready Chamber of Commerce, will sing some beautiful new carols as well as some of the old favorites. The Junior leaders of the club Debbie and Penny Bursill, Debbie
Peterson, Kathy and Kirk Pharis, Meg Sailor, and Dave Siegfried, will sing two Christmas numbers, Cheryl Dockter will
play "We Three Kings" and "Joy to the World," on the Organ.
The Ladies of the Grange are baking cookies and have decorated
a beautiful tree. It promises to be a lovely evening.

On the stormiest night so far this year (last Monday)
the Rough and Ready Fire Department Auxiliary held its Christmas meeting, Outside, the old Hall rocked under the onslaught
of wind and rain, but inside was warm and gay. The ladies decided to give the Fire Department a Christmas present, some
of the. communication equipment they need. Our busy party
lines make speedy contacts hazardous, A clever pin, a silver
fireman's helmet, was presented to retiring. president. Mrs,
Marie Broadus. Sixteen members of the Newcomers Lyric
Ensemble were guests for the evening and sang Christmas
Carols for the group. Cookies (just like the pictures in Sunset Magazine) and punch were served by. Hospitality Chairman
Mrs. Noreen Harwood. _

The Fire Department will hold its Christmas Turkey Shoot
(weather permitting) on Sunday December 17 at Squirrel Creek
Ranches Highway 20, half mile west of Rough and Ready Fost

Mrs, Thelma Potter will open a new Antique Shop in Rough
and Read y on Dec, 14. . Its located on Highway 20 just three
doors east of the post office. Mrs, Potters real interest is
glassware but she also has many other small items including
pieces of pewter and brass, Coilecting things, excepting the
necessities of life, has never been one of my hobbies but. according to Mrs, Potter its quite the thing, Just now collectors
are buying bean bottles, These are not antique items, They
are liquor containers made of fine china by the Jim Beam Liquor Co, for special customers, One she spoke of was a bottle
in the shape of a cat made especially for advertising Katz
Drug Store in New York City. "To each his own" but very
clever,

Mrs. Virginia Burris, daughter of the Fred McCumbers
and long time resident of Rough and Ready is going to leave
us, -She was married Sunday at the Little Wedding Chapel in
Rough and Ready and after a brief honeymoon the new Mr. and
Mrs, Hart will reside in Boise, Idaho.

Our invalids of last week are all doing fine. Carl Balton,
Sam Colletti, Rhonda Prochaska, and Mary Sailor are all
home from the hospital and recuperating nicely; We seem to
have a new crop. Thank goodness only one is from Rough
and Ready this time. Mrs, Lisetta Scheave reportedly had a
couple of real bad days but is reported better now.

The Grange Christmas Dinner on Friday evening had about
50 guests. The turkey and trimmings were a credit to H.E.C.
chairman, Mrs, Marguerite Abbott. A brief program of Christmas verse, games, tableau and music arranged by lecturer
Fay Dunbar was concluded with a gift exchange. Happy addition
to the Christmas music was "White Christmas" sung by Daniel
Beatie and “Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle

It will be illegal to drive the
1968 models of eleven makes
of automobiles or trucks inCalifornia on and after Dec. 1, 1967.
Department of Motor Vehicles
Director Verne Orr said the following makes will be denied registration papers and license
plates until they obtain exhaust
control certification from the
State Air Resources Board:
Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin,
Ferrari, Fiat (except model 850)
Glas, Lamborghini, Lancia, Maserati, NSU, Shelby (GT-350 and
GT-500), Sunbeam.
Orr said dealers in these
makes were notified by the Air
Resources Board that their products do not meet California's
exhaust control requirements,
which in this case are also federal standards.
"State legislation enacted two
years ago put manufacturers on
notice that all new automobiles
in California would have to be
equipped with certified exhaust
control devices not later than
December 1 of this year,"

Takes Bride in Reno
Patricia Noreen McCabe, daughter of Mrs, George G.
McCabe of Reno and the late Mr. McCabe, became the wife
of Terry Williams McGuire, son of Mr. and Mrs, Carlos T.
McGuire, of Grass Valley, in a wedding ceremony in Our
lady of Wisdom Church, Reno, Nov. 4.
The new Mrs. McGuire chose Alencon lace over bridal
taffeta in an empire style for her wedding gown. The back
fullness fell into a cathedral length train and her veil was of
imported illusion secured by a seed pear! crown,
The bridal bouquet was sesigned of white orchids surrounded by cascading white roses,
Matron of honor was the bride's sister, Mrs. Carl R.
Cahill, gowned in a deep blue crepe dress and carrying a
cascading bouquet of pale blue carnations.
The groom selected Ralph Schmitcke of Sacramento as his
best man and ushers were the bride's brothers, George L.
and Michael J, McCabe,
The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, William
Stamphli of Reno. The marriage rites were performed by the
Rev, Charles J. Righini before an altar decked with white
gladiolas and chrysanthemums,
Wedding guests attended a reception for the couple at the
Holiday Lodge in Reno.
The bride, a financial accountant for a Sacramento insurance firm, is a graduate of Manogue High School, Reno;
attended Mt. St. Mary's College, Los Angeles and received
her degree from the University of Nevada, where she was affiliated with Delta Delta Sorority,
McGuire graduated from Nevada Union High School, received his: B.S, and M.S, degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. Presently, he is a civil engineer employed by the California Department of Water Resources,
He also has served a tour in the U.S, Navy as a lieutenant.

Kings" for the tableau,

Our Monthly Card Parties are beginning to really "go,"
The next one will be Jan. 9, Mrs. Allene Medlyn of Sunset
won the door prize Tuesday, First of the five prizes was a
ham won by Don Long of’ Rough and Ready, Champion whist
player for the evening was Roy Bradley with a score of 153,
There were 15 other whist’ winners with scores ranging downward to 131. Long also won the prize for the pinochle table,
Chairman Mrs. Doris Bradley served beautiful and delicious
Christmas cookies for refreshments,
Bids for Planting of 90,000
Tree Seedlings Called For Bids
for planting 90 thousand tree
seedlings have been called for,
by the Folsom District of the
Bureau of Land Management.
The areas to be planted are
northwest of West Point in Calaveras County and in the Lake
City area in Nevada County.
The bids will be received until 2 p.m., PST, Dec. 19, 1967,
at the BLM Portland Service
Center at 710 N.E. Holladay
