This And That
Letter comes froma friend down South who
inquires about our weather. He read in his
newspaper that we had lots of snow up here. We
wrote him that there was a base of 77 inches of
hard pack on Donner Pass, the depth lowering
gradually as youcame on toward the County Seat.
Up to now the only snow we have seen is that on
cars coming from the higher country. We have
no doubt but that we will get it before winters
over. Now he writes that he will be up next
week, Ski-l3oots and all, inat is the way it goes
around here.
To show how the fates take a hand in our advencures, the Gold bearing Quartz vein discovered this
week in Nevada City lies within eight feet of a
shaft dug by one of the early Gold Rush Days
Miners. It is not clear what the old timer did
find with his shaft which penetrates througi: 10ck
for hundreds of feet, but we do know that te
started his shaft just the eight feet away from
riches and as he went on-with his digging, he lost
ground and missed the ''POT OF GOLD!"
