Upon entering a room in a Washington hotel,
awoman recognized a well-known government
official pacing up and down the room and asked
him what he was doing there. "I'm going to deliver a speech shortly," he replied. 2
"Do you usually get very nervous before address‘ng a large audience?" the lady asked.
"Nervous, "he replied. 'NoInever get nervous!"
"In that case,'' demanded the lady, "what are
you doing in the Ladies room?"

Rotarian Ed. Clark showed some interesting
slide pictures of his trip to Italy. Of particular
interest was his pictures of Florence and the
many works ofart in that famed city. They were
more interesting at this time in view of the heavy
floods now plagueing that city. The group liked
his show so well that they want him back. Word
was received of the illness from a heart attack,
of our poineer citizen Elsa Kilroy. Mr. Kilroy
is now at the Sierra-Nevada Memorial Hospital
and doing very nicely according to direct word
from him.

Talk about Gold fever. Ourman, George Brooks
has been agog all week after his sensational
discovery of Gold bearing quartz in the bed of
Deer Creek. George has his pocket full of rocks
and is usually carrying a big one in his hand.
Ask him where the find is located and he will
give you acold stare and point directly to the
creek.

Percy, thats our cat, must have heard something about digging for gold for this mornifig when
we left him he was out in the hill clawing for all
he was worth, assisted by our Elk-hound, ''Captain." Talk about co-operation those two furry
fellows have it. We suspect that they have found
a squirrel or possibly a gopher hole and have
decided that they must have him. Old man Percy
has a long record of Gopher catching and it can
be that he is teaching the Captain how to go after
them. Iam going to keep a sharp look-out on
their work for they might dig a hole big enough
to uncever a gold claim. It's been done.

Our Nevada City Committee for the restoration of the famous Nevada Theatre is beginning
to bear down on their project. Some $26, 000 has
been pledged toward a goal of about $50,000. If
past experiences are any criteria the first few
thousands are the hardest. Let us all get with
itand help put this most important project over
in grand style. We will tell you more about this
later, just now we have got to concentrate on
Christmas.

The rains have let upfora day or so which gives
us a good chance to look around and see what our
country looks like. Since arriving here about six
weeks ago, we have faced the heaviest rainfall
in the recent history of our County. Some 20
inches have fallen which to many areas is equal
to a years supply. The farmers and cattlemen
must be very happy. :

Iam frequently reminded of the Vermont woman

what she had to say about it.
