This appearance of the Opera Association will be in the nature of an important premiere since it will mark the first performance of the opera in an out of town showing. Musical Dignitaries from allover the State of California will be present for the opening strains of "The Barber of Seville", by Rossini. After the Opera, a plush reception will be held in the Litton Building with an expected invitational attendance of 150 people. ** Ok Ok WHICH LEADS ME NICELY INTO MY NEXT SUBJECT! I wonder how many people in Nevada County realize how tremendously fortunate we have been in having Charles and Lu Litton as Citizens of this area. The years the Littons have been residents of this county can be counted by the innumerable donations have consisted not only of money but of time, equipment, facilities, and wholehearted cooperation in every manner. This year Steve Burvis, who is beyoung the two front teeth age, is using theme, All I want for Christmas is a strong left arm and: right leg. Steve broke his arm on October 27th. The Doctor thinks he . might get the cast off for and called out: "Who is it?" Replied the caller: "IT'S ME!" Said Flo to young daughter: "Go see what that man wants!" It turned out to be a girlONE OF THE READERS reports about calling in an electrician to take care of some wiring for them. The Electrician took one look at the existant wiring and snorted: "WHO INSTALLED THIS AWFULMESS ?" Replied the surprised Reader: "YOU DID-TWO YEARS AGO!" D'Angers appeared and sobbingly explained that she was being deported. Asked the commentator: "Do you plan on appearing again tonight in view of this bad news?" Drying her tears, Yvonne dramatically lisped: "OF COURSE! AS THEY SAY 'THE SHOW MUST GO ON!" And maybe a little more? * * kk THE TEA LEAVES TELL: A Beginner at water skiing often looks like someone being thrown out of a saloon. — _land, Kansas. Christmas. Fortunately, and I use the term loosely, it was his left arm and he has been able to continue with his school work. The leg wasn't broken until Dec. 2nd. He will still be wearing a crutch for Christmas. Steves interests are certainly varied. He broke his arm, when he missed the rope, doing a ents and younger children accompanied their 4Hrs. One jof the loveliest numbers in the musical program, arranged by Mr. andMrs. Dean Ross, . was the beautiful "O Holy Night" by Adolphe Adam. It was sung in four parts by VickiJohnson, Debbie Peterson, and Debbie and Pennie Bursill. The evening concluded Tarzan routine. The leg with games refreshments got its "bad breaks" at the Penn Valley Church after Choir practice. The Burris' live with Steve's grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fred McCumber of Rough and Ready. Mr. McCumber has had a bad year, too. He had surgery on Nov. 15th and since his trip to the hospital he has begun to feel up to par again. The McCumbers' eldest daughter Irene Lanzendorfer and her family will and a visit from Santa Claus. The games were organized by Steve Thomas 4H Recreation Chairman. Dave Siegfried as Santa Claus handed out Christmas stockings with a happy HO! HO! HO! Mrs. Burkard served ice cream and cookies The Roughand Ready 4H ‘Club is a very active group. Kirk Pharis President announced arrangements to meet for skating on Sunday Dec. 18 be "Home for Christmas." and then have dinner and Mr. and Mrs. Lanzendorfer and their young son live in the Bay area. * * * The J. Ray Olivers' have a visitor from RichShe is Mrs. Laura Lepper, "School Days" friend of the Olivers. They were classmates 50 years ago in Topeka, Kansas. What an unusual experience our "crazy" hills must be after Kansas plains. * * * * About 30 ladies, both young and old, gathered at the Bursill Ranch on Dec. 6th for a party for Lexie Lee Pease who is being married to Wm. H. BursillonDec. 26th. Several games were arranged by the Misses Deborah and Penelope Bursill. One game, a story of the Bride and groom is song titles, was won by Mrs, Janey Lott. Mrs. Lott isa close family friend and will serve the cake at the wedding reception. Mrs. Isabel Haas gave three pertinent re dings. One called "Perseérvere"' was very encouraging to the girls still trying to get their man. Lexie received a beautifularray of personal and bathroom gifts. Among them was a matching rain outfit delivered by Wm. J. Bursill disguised as the Weather Man. * * *k * The 4H Christmas Party was a hilarious affair, Rough and Ready Hall was filled. Many of the para program with the Banner 4H Club. Two weeks ago the group toured the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company central office in Grass Valley, and just before that the Wolf Mtn. Relay Station. * * *K * Last Friday night the Rough and Ready Grange held its annual Christmas Program. Over 60 gathered for a Turkey dinner. After dinner game prizes were won by Virginia Brewer, LaNetta Hyatt,. Don Long, and Hazel Schull. The program opened with young Bill Slade singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. _ Later in the evening Elaine Vogt, Olyve Simmons, and Fay Dunbar sany What Child is This and 32 Feet and 8 Little Tails. Highlight of the program was the Nativity scene with Virginia Brewer as Mary, Jack Bixler, Charles Deardorf and Gunnar Willimas as the Magi and Mamie Slade as Narrator. Mamie read the Bible Story of the Newborn King and sang Away in a Manger and O Holy Night. A gift exchange and Caroling completed a delightful Christmas Party. x * * * Don't forget the Fire Dept. Turkey Shoot Dec. 18th 10A.M, to 4 P.M. on Rough and Ready Road.
