California Employment Hits A All-Time High In November The numbet of employed Calir fornians last month exceeded all ' previous Novembers, and unemployment was substantially under the year-ago level, This report was issued by the Califomia departments of Industrial Relations and Employment. : Civilian employment totaled 6, 955,000 in November, a record for the month and higher than a year ago by 302,000, or 4,5, percent, according to Ernest B. Webb, director of industrial relations, Webb pointed out that the November figures represented a widening of the gain froma year ago that has been evident in recent months, although a contributing factor in the rela~ tively large over-the-year increase was a depressed November, 1964, because of a rainy report week, All major categories participated in the November-toNovember job growth with government, services, and trade in the lead. Hard goods categories contributed the bulk of the November-to-November job additions in manufacturing. In part because of the rain-dampened November, 1964, level, agriculture topped the year-ago total for the first time this year and the construction industry posted its only sizeable over-the-year gain. Between October and November this year, employment declined by 71,000, a comparatively small reduction for these months, The cutbacks from October were concentrated in seasonal activities, mainly agriculture and fruit and vegetable canning.
