This glowing future could be just a year away, Rankin said. . The Pacific Gas and Electric Co, is holding ‘$65,000 for Ne~-yada City's underground utilities, a sum accumulated over a four year period. The work is ~ planned for 1971, Rankin added. At the time PG&E is removing the present poles and placing the electric service, telephone service and cable television underground, the city will spend its gas tax money to resurface the pavement, As new lights will have to be installed when the services go underground, the council suggested lighting with gas lamps. Rankin called for a demonstra: case = era may come back to NC tion of various types of gas lamps at the Jan. 11 meeting, He suggested the board of supervisors be invited to attend the demonstration, as well asmember of the cityplanning commission and city chamber of commerce. To complete Broad Street's new look, as envisioned by the mayor and other councilmen, city manager Beryl Robinson — Jr. .suggested purchasing the state owned property on Nevada. Street and paving it for a public parking lot. The city now leases the prop-. erty from the statefor $1 a year, Robinson reminded the council. "But the state said no more leasing, after June we must buy it or. give it up," he added. The state wants $14,C00 for the 12,160 square feet-of land. The city has $6,000 plus budgeted for purchase of the land inthepresent budget. After several weeks of deliberating the subject, Nevada county’s supervisors enacted a uniform house numberingstreet naming ordinance Tuesday. . . The impact for citizens of the Golden Empire who live outside the cities will come in about a year when five digit house numbers followed by the name of the road on which they live will become their official address. As things stand now, people in rural” areas use a route and box Nevada County Supervisors Report and all existing route numbers will be converted then. However, after that time, people will have two years in which to adjust from routes to house ‘numbers for mail purposes, Planning Director Stanley Mansfield promised to "make the transition as smooth as possible." The. board voted 4-1 for the ordinance with Supervisor Ralph Buchanan the no member. Buchanan said he has seen merit to the proposal from the beginning but added: "My constituents don't like it and don't want me to vote for it. For that reason, I'm going to be forced to vote against it.” PLAN TORONI PG Pe De
