Selene tn Yuba River Water Rights Unresolved By Hearing SACRAMENT O---The question of Yuba River water rights was left unresolved by the State Water Commission at the hearing in Sacramento last Thursday. Representatives of the Nevada Irrigation District, the Yuba County Water Agency and the Johnson Rancho County Water District all submitted briefs in the quest for the state's assignments on Yuba water, The Yuba County Agency and Johnson Rancho are both seeking the state ‘s assignments, NID is also asking for the state's assignments or release from priority in favor of other NID applications relative to water need for their proposed Yuba-Bear River project. No decision was given by the commission at the hearing. TheNID's applications to develop water from Weaver Lake and East Fork Creek were contested by the San Juan Water District, but both agencies worked out. an agreement to havethese considered by the Commission at a later date, Some of the’ most impor-_ tant statements of the day w ere-contained in a report to the commission from the Department of Water Resources recommending that the request of Johnson Rancho for state application be denied and that the request of Johnson Rancho for the state apapplications be denied and that the request of the NID for release from priority be granted, It is possible that the fight between the Yuba County Agency and Johnson Rancho for state assignment of Yuba water may be carried to the State Water Rights Board before it is finally resolved, TheNID which just about removed itself from this fight by obtaining almost identical stipulations with both agencies to recognize the NID'‘s applications for Yuba water now finds itself. in a fairly strong position regardless of which agency finally gets the state assignment, Safflower is grown for its oil-rich seeds and the byeg safflower meal, The Nevada County NUGGET.. .Wednesday, December 20,1961.. -Page 3 rg CHRISTMAS DOLL...Nevada City Lions club members Gerry Cheiatie Oekd and Roy Harris bid farewell to the group's annual Christmas Doll. walking beauty this year was Stan Roeseler; Grass Valley Lions club member.
