Commission members refused, pointing out that the proposed ordinance is now under discussion throughout the county, and that subcommittees of the commis-~ sion will meet with numerous other interested organizations to discuss that specific ordinance and its features. A tape of the discussion was made sothat other commission members and supervisors will have reference to the subcommittee meeting. The meeting Monday followed the second hearing on the proposed ordinance w hich was held last week. Numerous residents among the 250 in attendance at that hearing voiced their views of the ordinance, Among comments at the hearing were the following: Robert McWhinney, Indian S prings Roadrancher and newly appointed tothe commission, proposed that a subdivision ordinance include only the specifications of the state map act, plus a lot width minimum and county road specifications, Pete Scribner urged the members of the planning commission to "stand up on their own two feet" and say what they think. David Maltman said he} believes a subdivision ordinance is necessary, but he said the proposed ordinance will not “fit for 15 or 20 years." He praised the real estate board ordinance as a good foundation on which to build. A. Van Houtum of Rough and Ready said people come
toNevada County for country living, and they can't get it if you require sidewalks and other city controls, PhilPersoneni told the commission that ifit worked for two years and produced something as outrageous as § that,” it ought to allow an additional 60 days for study. Commission “marked disinclination" to change decisions of the planning commission, He said it was important that any changes needed in the ordinance should be made by the planning commission, Ray Jacobus said "we do need an ordinance” to prevent unscrupulous subdividers from coming in, but he said that a transaction involving four parcels or less does not constitute a subdivision, Bill Stinson asked whether the commission would eliminate the “key objection," that involving the definition of a subdivision. Bob Gates asked the commission, "Is this something people wish to live with?" Commissioner Robert Graham said, "No," He added that the constructive suggestions were welcome and "I think we're getting somewhere, " Commissioner G.R, Beechel pointed out the ordinance” was never passed" by the commission, only put up for hearing, He said in his opinion the ordinance would be amended and modified and would not be adopted “until we're satisfied, " Hugh Harris of North San Juan, Mrs, David Rose of Brunswick Rd., Al Gelhaus of Grass Valley, and Pat O' Brien of Grass Valley all raised questions about specific provisions of the proposed. ordinance, Thenextregular meeting of the commission is scheduled forJan, 8-at7:30 p.m. in the supervisors chambers, Commissionmembers attending last night, in addition to those mentioned, were Melva Hillier, John Looser, and Alfred Heller.
