Cancel Meet

Champion Circle No. 325, will
not meet on Dec. 21, due to the
holidays. The next meeting will

party and pot luck dinner, All
members and invited guests declared the evening a huge success,
The Thimble Club of the Neighbors met Thursday evening in
the Victorian Room’ of the National Hotel for their annual
Christmas party,

NEVADA COUNTY JUNIOR MISS--A senior at Nevada
Union High School, 17-year old Marie Jobling was selected
from among 10 of the county's high school seniors as Nevada
County Junior Miss, last week by a panel of five judges. She
is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Robert Jobling of Grass Valley,
Runner-up and the winner of $150 scholarship was Linda Matson,
Second runner-up and receiving a $100 scholarship was Debi
Austin of Grass Valley.
YOUTH INJURED--Isaac S. Preheim, 599 E, Main Street,
Grass Valley, suffered a broken collarbone when his bicycle
struck a car last week. He was thrown from his bike after
colliding with a car driven by William W. Esterly, 72, 407
Alta Vista Avenue, Grass Valley.
OREGON MAN INJURED--A Portland, Oregon man was
slightly hurt when his car ran off icy Lower Banner Road
and struck a large rock last Sunday. The California Highway
Patrol cited Douglas Allan Smith, 23, Portland for traveling
too fast for road conditions. Smith was treated at Sierra Nevada
Memorial Hospital and released.
SCHOOL DISPLAYS NEW BOOKS--New curriculum related
books were exhibited last week at the library of the Nevada
Union High School. This was the third annual review of new
books, on display for evaluation and consideration.
STEP IN DISSOLUTION—Next-to-last step in the dissolution
of Nevada County Water District No. 1 was taken last Monday
as the Local Agency Formation Commission voted to do away
with the district.
HORSE SHOW PLANNED--The first horse show of the
new year will be held at the K and T Ranch on Indian Springs

FOUR INDICTED--The Nevada County Grand Jury has
indicted four Southern California men with violations of the
health and safety code involving Marijuana. The indictments were
handed down Dec. 11, Accused are Darrel R. Cameron, 22,
Paramount; Howard T. Melvin, 22, Bellflower; Frank Norkus,
21, and Jay A. Maxwell, both of Southgate, with felonious possession of marijuana, A second and third ( Sy

SCHOOL BONDS SOLD--Mother Lode Bank has been awarded
a contract to purchase $140,000 in bonds for the Nevada Union
High School new sports complex. Net interest cost to the district will be approximately $116,909,
