County Needs Eight Employees To Handle Medicare The board of supervisors decided Monday to hirté eight new employees for the county welfare department, for the federal Medicare program, The salaries of six of the new Workers will be completely reimbursable under the mammoth social security medical aid program passed by Congress this year, The two other employees, who will also be concerned with Medicare, may not have reimbursable salaries, In other significant action, the supervisors directed the department of public works to work with the county clerk to conduct a study of revised maps and boundaries for the supervisorial districts, County counsel Leo Todd said this would be required for Nevada County under the law. Existing districts are now somewhat out of kilter, For example, District V (Truckee) now contains Surveys To Begin For Long Awaited Natural Gas Line Route surveys and engineering studies with plans tostart acquisition of rights-of-way for a 17mile natural gas extension from Wheatland to Grass Valley will start shortly, Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced thi week, W. O. Schugren, a public accountant with offices in Nevada City, isexpected to be appointed to the Nevada City library board this week by Mayor Arch McPherson, Last week the city council accepted with regret the resignation of John Larue from the board, and at that time the mayor announced Schugren's appointment, to fill out the unexpired term. 1955 between Yuba City and Lincoln served as a first step , toward extending natural gas . service into western Nevada County. A 10-mile extension from this transmission main, at a point near Wheatland to Beale Air Force Base three years ago, was another link in the service extension goal, The final step in the long-range program, according to Laughlin, will be construction of a 17 -mile main between the Beale AFB extension and Grass Valley regulator station including revisions in the existing Grass ValleyNevada City propane-air system, ou and a prosperous New Year OR YOUR SHOPPING CONVENIENCE Nw QP LATE except Christmas eve — Scunctts & Steel 111 Mill St. Grass Valley rs only 10 percent of the voters, while District II (Grass Valley area) contains 30 percent.
