The approved grant represents 50 per cent of the original estimated cost of $148,000 to complete the project. However, because EDA requirements mandated some changes the cost went up to $165,000, according to Harry Hider, director of public works and a member of the Solid Waste Disposal Committee. Hider said additional federal money may be forthcoming to meet 50 per cent of the higher cost. Supervisor Bob Long, county auditor John Trauner and Hider, members of the committee, will discuss procedure and implementation of the grant with EDA officials Wednesday in Seattle, Wash. The board of supervisors has budgeted about $30,000 for the project for this fiscal year, Hider said. The DPW director anticipates the county will receive federal money on a work progress basis. Approval culminated a series of efforts of many people. The proposal went through the Grass $74,000 grant to help on landfill — Valley office of the Sierra Eco-nomic Development District. which reviewed and okayed the original grant, Hider said. Lou Meikle, consultant for the solid waste project, helped .prepare final plans and specifications, Physical work on the project probably will begin as soon as weather permits, The state has mandated that open burning at dumps cease as of Dec. 31.
