Sixth graders ahead of schedule two years ago, study reveals The average sixth grader in -Grass Valley schools two years ago was functioning slightly above his grade level, a study shows, The study, conducted on the 1968-69 sixth grade, shows that the students were an average of four months ahead of their grade level, Supt. Herbert Ambrosius told the trustees this week. Grass Valley's scores in the state testing were compared with 67 other districts of similar size. Besides the grade level figure, the test showed these results: Reading--Grass Valley 26th of 67. Top score among schools was 57.7; Grass Valley, 50.8, low score 40,7. 1Q--Top score 102.4 (average); ‘Grass Valley 97.4, low score 94,5, Family poverty--55th. of 67, per average daily ental effort, more stability for~« many children; more efficient * Expenditure attendance--39th of 67, High was $627; Grass Valley was $415; low was $313, Tax rate--6lst of 67, High was $3.86; Grass Valley was $2; low was $1.10. Minimum teacher salary-63rd of 67. High was $7,099; Grass Valley was $5,749; low was $5,599. Maximum salary-58th of 67, High was $13,100; Grass Valley was $10,250; low was $9,200, Ambrosius felt that the district's below average showings in tax rate, salaries and expense per student compared to its stronger results in statistics showing what s learn "speaks well for the district."
