Christmas tree fire safety tips
The Junior Chamber of Commerce of Grass Valley in cooperation with the Grass Valley Fire Department's Fire
Safe Holiday Program brings
this message from the National
Fire Protection Association as
a public service:
By a firm, fresh tree (when
dried out, evergreens become
highly combustible). Until ready
for use, store the tree ina cool ¥
place with its base in water.
Before setting up the tree,
cut off the base, and make a 45degree cut on both sides oftree.
“This fresh cut helps the tree
absorb water. Place'the tree in:
a. stand containing water. Keep
water level above the cut, Check
daily.
Locate tree away from heat
thot. air duct, radiator, —
vision, fireplace, ete.) —
where it will not block exits.
Consider giving tree support with guy wires.
Take downtree as soon as possible after holiday. Unless tree
you buy has been treated correctly with UL-listed chemicals
— do not rely on the tree's fire
retardant qualities,
Do no attempt to treat. trees
with an aerosol fire retardant
spray. Adequate coverage isex~

use of class time through student self discipline, more discipline, inequality of expenditures, county and statewide etc.
"Almost all of the replies received stated a feeling that the
education being received in
Grass Valley was very adequate
for the amount spent.
"Nearly all replies also suggested methods for improve-~
ment which either cost more
money or were those thingsover
which the schools was no control (i.e) smaller class loads,
more special services, home
or home’ conditions,

Mrs, Reynolds also cited news
articles she has readfrom other ~
places reporting on use of tranand quilizers to calm unruly youngsters,
Ambrosius explained that this
is prescribed only by a physician and can be a way of calming
"a truly hypersensitive child."
A teacher noted a student she
once had could not learn at all
until, after considerable counseling, a physician had him take
tranquilizers, By the end of the
year, the child’ was near tis*
