AY key Wolverines Capture Tournament Consolat After dropping their opening game, the Wolverines. of Sierra College won their next two and captured the consolation crown of the annual Golden Valley ConSPORTS ference basketball tournament. College of Marin won the single elimination event. Shasta was second, ahead of host Santa Rosa. Wolverine guard Ralph Villanueva wasnamed tothe all tournament team, The Davis sophomore received the most votes in the Ownership Must Be Proven To Register A Boat Effective January 1, 1965, the owner of a boat being registered for the first time in California must furnish proof of ownership based on certified documentation and an identifying hull number for each boat. Prior to the new requirement, authorized by the 1963 Legislature and enacted by the Small Craft Harbors Commission, boat owners had no assurance their craft would not be stolen: and reregistered under a new “owner”. The commission's action was taken after statewide hearings disclosed a need for positive identi_ fication of individuals boats. . When applying to the Division of Small Craft Harbors for the re~ quired initial registration of a boat, the owner now must furnish certification of ownership and show; the boat's hull number, The hull number will be entered on the certificate of ownership, or pink slip, issued by the State. Boats having no manufacturer's hull number will be assigned such a number by the Division of Small Craft Harbors. Hull numbers assigned by the Division will always be the boat's CF registration num-~ ber preceded by the. letter "B". The owner must then stamp, scribe, carve, brand or otherw ise permanently mark the assigned number on a basic part of the itull of his boatand notify the Division. Most commercial boat builders throughout the nation mark each hull with an identifying number. All have been asked to do so for boats to be sold in California. Copies of the new regulations, the necessary forms, and instructions on hull number marking may be obtained by writing the Division of Small Craft Harbors, 1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento, 95814, Richards Elected Commission President Thomas H. Richards, Jr. of Sacramento was elected president of the California Fish and Game Commission at the December 4 meeting in Los Angeles, He has been vice president this year. He scored 54 points in the three tournament games, Others chosen tothe team wére; Bush, Marin; Stewart, Santa Rosa; Osborne, Shasta and Landoe, Siskiyous, Most Valuable Player honors went to Jay Johnson of champion Marin. Sierra's inability to sink foul shots enabled the Shasta College Knights to upset Sierra in the opener. The Wolverines scored on only 58 percent of their free throws to 73 percent for the Knights. Villanueva led Sierra scorers with 15, followed by Ron Muskopf with 12, Osborne had 15 for the Shastans, The initial loss: moved Sierra into the consolation
bracket. The Wolverines got back on the winning track against the Napa College Chiefs. Sierra, down four at the half, rallied to a 76-63 win, The local college cagers sank 35-field goals in the contest. However, the Sierrans could convert on only six free shots. Muskopf led all scorers with 21 points, Other Wolverines in double figures were Villanueva, 18; Rich Olsen, 10, and Wayne Yamamura, 10. Smith led Napa with 19. The final contest was a thriller, with Sierra edging the American River JC Beavers in overtime 7974, It wasthe Wolverines’ finest offensive effort of the season, They had 29 field goals and 21 points from the charity line. Sierra led by five at the half but the Beavers took a five point lead in the third quarter. Sierra had a ion Crown slim margin in the later stages of the game until Steve Singer tied it with 10 seconds to play. ARJC scored on four field goals during the overtime. Sierra had 13 points most of which came on free throws. Big Gary Cox was tough on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds for the winners.
