THREE DOCTORS and administrator Florence Stark admire the newly donated surgical lamp, a
memorial to Miners Hospital in memory of Mr, and Mrs. E. M. Rector. The medical men are
(left to right) Dr. Bernard W, Hummelt, chief of the médical staff; Dr. John Rector, president
of the hospital board, and Dr, £, William Rector, one of the doners, Three members of the
E. M. Rector family donated the lamp, the first to be installed in a Northern California Hospital, The lamp was donated by Mrs. John Larue, Mrs, Roy Tremoureux and Dr. E, William
Rector. The unusual pod design lamp produces less heat while reducing shadows which are
normally found in an overhead lamp. It is completely adjustable so it won't interfere with the
surgeon's activities and it provides light very close to natural sunlight and greatly improves
color perception.

More than 70 members and
guests of the Nevada County

when new officers were elected
and installed at an annual dinner
meeting in The Office.
Eric Leffingwell, of the Malakoff. Diggins Historic State Park,
traced the history of the park
since its beginning as an "infant" in1965 to a full fledged
park of 1969, He credited much
_of the park's success to community interest -and involve~<
ment,
’ Leffingwell said "The days
ahead are challenging" and outlined plans for the planned early
summer opening of the McKillican-Mobley General Store. He
described other diplays which
help “tell the way of life of the
miner of the hydraulic era."
He concluded his presentation
with a show of colored slides
of the park, and recited a poem,
_“Prophecy."” The poem, written
.by a high school student, related to conservation and the
havoc man has and can bring to
nature's wonders.

from Boise Cascade Properties
Sales.
A complaint filed in Superior
Court Claims that the Rodenbergs deposited $1,630 on property they hoped to buy in a
WLP subdivision. It alleges the
deposit was subject to proper
financing, and further alleges a
bank denied finance, through no
fault of the Rondenbergs. Thereafter, according to the document, the land companies refused to cooperate with the Rondepbergs in arranging financ-,
ing.
The couple asks for the return of the deposit plus interest at seven per cent.

New state school
laws explained »
Edward Fellersen, county superintendent of schools, Wednesday night distributed copies
of the 1969 State Education Code
‘to the Nevada County Board of
Education. Some of the changes
are as follows:
--If a school district main-tains an elementary school under the supervision of one county
but sends its high school students to a district in another
county, voters in the elementary district may vote for board
members in both districts, Thus,
Camptonville with its elementary school under the jurisdiction of Yuba county, but which
sends its high school students
to Nevada Union High School,
is entitled to vote in both elections.
--A quorum of any school
board constitutes a legal meeting. However, a vote requires
the majority of the membership
of the entire board, Thus, three
members of a five member board
‘ constitutes a quorum, A motion
requires the unanimous vote of
the three, which represents a
quorum.

Miners survive fouls
to beat Casa Roble
ORANGEVALE — Casa Roble
High School had Santa Claus
but the Nevada Union Miners
had the better basketball team
in a non-league game at Orangevale Friday.
The result was a 60-51 win
for the Miners, their seventh
in eight games. It was the tast
scheduled game of this year
for Nevada Union, which will
take a Christmas vacation until
Jan, 6 when they open their
Sierra Foothill League schedule
against Roseville.
For Casa Roble, Santa Claus
came in the form of a pair of
refs who could find little wrong
with the play of the Rams but
found plenty wrong with the play
of Nevada Union.
The sign behind the Rams'
rooting section said, "We have
Santa Claus on our side" and
it made a firm believer out of
Nevada Union fans.
The Miners were in foul
trouble from the start of the
contest. Jerry Anthney had four,
Gary Mitchell three and Greg
Rayburn three before the first
half came to a close.
Anthney survived the contest
but Rayburn and Mitchell were
gone long before the game was
over. At the end of three quarters, Casa Roble trailed Nevada
Union 45-41,
Of their 41 points, 19 came
‘ via the free throw route, Nevada
Union had only five by free
throws out of nine attempts.
No fouls were called against
Casa Roble in the first or third
quarters.
The outside shooting of
Charlie Phelps and Rich Kruegel
offset. the Rams' free throw
advantage and Nevada Union
poured it on in the final quarter to win by a nine-point marThe game was close all the
way but the Miners maintained
a narrow lead throughout the
contest. The outside shooting
of Bob Robinson kept the Rams
close,
In the final period, Kruegel,
Phelps and Scott Leonhard
quickly swished in outside shots
and the Miners built a 52-41
lead. The Rams were forced
to play catch-up ball and the
foul trend moved the other way
in the closing minutes of the
game.
From the floor, Nevada Union
scored 44 points compared to
30 for the Rams, The rest were
charity tosses,
Kruegel once again led the
Nevada Union charge with 16
points, the third time he has
scored 16 this season. Phelps
found the range for 15, his
best effort of the season.
Junior Gary Plunkett filled
in where needed and came up
with eight points. Mitchell and
Anthney added seven apiece.
