Now and then the ladies reward themselves with a luncheon at The Office in Grass Valley. As an excuse to meet there they usually honor one. of their collegues who. has’ a birthday or is going on vacation, Last week they were at a loss for a legitimate reason to get together. Then someone suggested a celebration of Santa's birthday. Carl Bauch has been elected to serve a fourth term as chief of the Peardale-Chicago Park Volunteer Fire Department. Other 1972 officers are Dave Jacobs, first assistant and Dick Bonde, second assistant. Anyone interested in joining the department can reach Bauch at 273-3797, Our fire department hosted a dinner for firemen from other districts’ last Wednesday evening at the Peardale firehouse. Lucky are the students home tor Christmas vacation from colleges that are on the quar-~ ter system. As one Cal Poly co-ed told me, "It's playtime." They are. between semesters, Other less fortunate students must crack a book or two during the holidays as finals still loom ahead. Cal Poly students home for the holidays include Bob Paasch, Chris Bierwagen and Denise Olds, Mike Sovey will be home soon from San Diego State. Mr, and Mrs, Bruce. Coleman and twin daughters were visiting the Ernie Colemans over the weekend. Bruce and family live in Pittsburg. "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" isn't exactly the Chicago Park-Peardale populace's favorite ditty these days. After heavy rains and high winds, the load of fluffy white stuff was the straw that broke power service on Christmas Eve, The power was off from 10:45 Friday evening until about 2:30 Christmas afternoon. In homes with electric stoves it looked like raw turkey was to be the specialty of the day. In the Meadow Drive area the power came on long enough to get turkeys started, then went off. As Jean Flynn‘said to Joyce Felce, 'What do you do with a half-cooked turkey?" Dave and Joyce Felce were to host afamily Christmas dinner, Joycé's aunt, Elsie Clary, cooked the turkey in Grass Valley but was unable to get out to the Felce home. Ron Felce, their son, was out plowing roads so that other people could get.where they wanted to go. Their daughter, Melody, was staying in Grass Valley with Ron's wife and didn't get home Christmas morning to open her gifts, The Felce's Christmas dinner consisted of one course, a ham sandwich, Also up on Meadow Drive, the Robert Costleys barbecued their turkey as did the Jen Freeses of Chicago Park, Marianne Bierwagen of Lower Colfax Road fired up the woodburner on ' her electric range and cooked the festive bird. Their’ Christmas guests were Ernie's sister and family, the Fulton Tangrens of Tacoma, Wahington and Davis, Con and Sibylnell Datling used ‘their wood range in the barn, Christmas weekend guests for the Ted Clarks on Colfax Highway were their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, Clifford Vensonhaler of Chico. The Clarks, fortunately, have a gas range. On December 21 they had an open house for a few friends. Mildred Mills of Chicago Park came through an ear operation in mid-December in fine shape, She was able to be up and about to complete Christmas preparations, Weekend guests for Jack and Millie were Kathleen Kyte and Cliff McDaniel of Reno,
