Sierra College trustees this
week authorized the start of the
first major construction project at
the local campus by advertising
for bids on a new administration
building. Contractors bids will be
opened in the third week of
December. Final Department of
Planning clearance for the plans
was expected Thanksgiving week,
according to Business Manager
George Alman.
The new building could be
completed in 1965 to clear administrative offices out of the
library building and provide more
classrooms.
Board Chairman Robert Ross and
fellow members also authorized
Vice President Marion Akers to
apply for federal Perkins Act funds
Fto construct a wing on the IndusSierra Plans Expansion
trial Technology building to meet
expanded enrollments. Perkins
act funds for such construction
would match local funds 50-50.
Akers was also given authority
to seek eight additional new instructors for 1965 to meet expanded enrollments, The interviews will be held as early as
Christmas vacation, according to
Akers, in order to compete for the
best in instruction.
Board members, which included Richard Lee, Dr. Ross,
Harold Wolters and Herb Perry
also made official the policy of
charging out of state tuition.
