Supervisors discuss
citizens’ committees.
Supervisors chatted informally about board appointed citizens' committees Tuesday at one
of their. shortest meetings in
many a week.
William Thomas opened the
subject when he asked county
counsel's "legal opinfi6n" concerning setting up a citizen's
committee under the Williamson Act. He said that he, Supervisor Dean Lawrence and
County Assessor Elton Tobiassen attended a meeting last week
where farmers and ranchers
indicated they will push for the
act to become effective in thiscounty. The Williamson Act
provides for tax relief for farmers and ranchers,
County Clerk Ted Kohler advised the board that proponents.
of the act have asked for early
agenda time at a board meeting.

established as an official body,

committee and will try to work
County Auditor Johnout details with her.
The newly appointed air: pollution committee also has requested a telephone credit card
and travelling money to investigate conditions which could
cause the skies not to be soblue
nor air sopure in Nevada county.
Thomas was "of a mind" to cut
back on committees. He suggested a review of "which ones to
keep." He was quick to say "all
are doing a good job of public
service." However, he felt a
financial -need to review the
committees,
"You just suggested a newone
‘(the Williamson Act committee),"" Mrs. Lawrence reminded him.
Chairman Willie Curran is
concerned about travelling
money for. his Truckee constituents who must come to Nevada
City to serve on committees.
Thomas suggested a policy
governing funding of committees, He favored post cards
rather than credit card telephone
calls, but was insistant that no
committee member have “out of
pocket expenses."
Trauner reminded the board
that budgets are required for all
committees who receive county
funds.
