Director "Encroachment Permits are needed, They are forthe purpose of protecting the health, welfare and safety of the public," according to Jack M. Meade, County Director of the Department of Public Works, Encroachment Permits arerequired by any person, firm or corporation for the following reasons: Construction of roads, operating tractors and hauling wide loads on county roads; doing work on county roads--including any pipe, pipeline, culvert, driveway, private road, or any structure or object placed in, under or over any portion of the county road, Meade noted that violators of this requirement are guilty of a misdemeanor, The requirement for these permits was ordained by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors in Ordinance No, 199 passed on April 20, 1955.
