; \ 2 T 0 The Nevada County Nugget, Wednesday, December 30, 1970 Ferreira quits NID, recommends successor Alex Ferreira has resigned as a director and chairman of the Nevada Irrigation District as of Dec, 31. The board accepted his resignation "with regret." Ferreira is leaving NID because he was elected supervisor of Placer county and will take office on Jan. 4, He introduced Francis Dobbas to the board members and asked the board to recommend Dobbas as his replacement to the Nevada county board of supervisors. He asked that action on his suggestion for a successor not be acted upon until the next meeting. Dobbas is a rancher and lives in the northeastern portion of NID's district in Placer county. His wife, Maureen, is county clerk of Placer county. "The stature of the board has never been as high as during your term as president of the board,"' Vice President James Tax schedule package will be smaller Changes made in the 1970 forms and schedules will result in a smaller tax package for most taxpayers, The basic package that will be sent to 50 million people late in December will be 24 pages compared to 32 pages last year. The 24-page package contains the Form 1040, schedules for itemized deductions and for reporting dividend and interest income, the. tax table, and instructions, Taxpayers who have capital gains to report, and income from other sources such as pensions, annuities, rents, or royalties will receive a 40-page package. Some 17.5 million taxpayers are in this category. About 10.5 million taxpayers, mostly farmers and businessmen, will receive a 56page package containing the additional schedules they will need. Mailings of tax packages are based on taxpayers’ filing status for the preceding year. If an individual's status has changed and he requires schedules not included in the package sent him, he may request them from his nearest IRS office. Dahl Larsons: win yule contest The Dahl Larson home on Cottage Street has been named winner of the Nevada City Christmas lighting contest Sponsored by Nevada City Lions and Chamber of Commerce, The commercial winner is Bank of America with Dr. B, W. Hummelt's office taking second prize, Other homes which won second and third prize in the lighting contest are the home of Mr. and Mrs, Bill Thomas, 437 Zion St. and Lars L, Drivold's home, 228 Brock Road.McAdams said to Ferreira, The board voted to accept the $1.2 million grant offer from the Department of Commerce, "Not a hard offer to accept," Ferreira stated before the vote. The money will be used for a North Auburn water system which will cost $2.1 million, State loan money, through the Davis-Grunsky act, will supply the remainder of the project cost. ~~ —* Manager Frank Clendenen told the board that design engineering is 95 per cent completed and he hopes to go to bid on the North Auburn project in March, "It should be built in one season," he added. The manager reminded the board that both Grass Valley and Nevada City were approached earlier this month by the Department of Public Health asking their plans for future treated water systems, Clendenen said NID is ready to discuss a treatment plant with either city. ‘ "We can build a more sophisticated system if we combine water for us and for Grass Valley in one system," Clendenen said. McAdams suggested the district board "sit down with Grass Valley and Nevada City and determine. a,course of action." Clendenen added that it was his understanding "that Nevada City wants to go it alone." A resolution was approved granting a salary adjustment of 5.72 per cent to water division employes as of Jan, 1, 1971, and a salary adjustment
of 7.50 per cent as of Sept. 1, 1970 (retroactive) to hydroelectric division employes. The resolution includes the phrase that subsequent salary adjustments for hydroelectric division employes will become effective on Jan, 1, 1972. The salary adjustments will be tied to the Bureau of Labor Statistics index, up or down, and will become automatic. The resolution also includes the information that any salary changes, other than adjustments according to the Bureau of Labor index, will be biennially. The water system for unit 1B of Auburn Greens was accepted by the board. Assistant engineer Bill Charpier Jr. told the board that the district had received a check from the Auburn Greens' owner for meters already installed, d Tahoe forest gets architect in landscaping Richard E. Modee has asSa aPER ear oR Taser ahaa By Fay M. Dunbar There are lots of ways’ to ‘start the New Year right. But according to our fire dept, auxiliary officers one of the best ways would be to attend the next auxiliary meeting which is sched° uled for. Monday, January 4, at 7:30 p.m, at the Grange Hall. Refreshments will be served and there will be some games but my informant didn't know yet who the hostess for January would be. The auxiliary officers are most anxiots to do several things in the coming year which would make our new fire house more useable and they want to get the jobs done before another winter. They are going to need a lot of help. They particularly asked me to get over to the new residents of the community the fact that everyone in the district automatically belongs to the district fire — dept. There are no dues, Maybe we women can't manage a fire truck too well but through the auxiliary we have an opportunity to do something to help proteck our homes, Auxiliary officers: for 1971 are: Mrs, Lolomae Tinsley, president; Mrs, Mary Lee, vice president; and Mrs, Pat Litchfield, secretary-treasurer. These ladiés work very hard at helping and have been most disappointed at the poor attendance at meetings, Let's get out there and do our bit-with a few ideas of our own. I suggested you would like daytime meetings at least until summer, Come out next Monday night and prove me wrong or at least arrange to have meetings at your favorite time. It's our homes: that need protecting, The Ways and Means Committee for 1971 is Mmes, Jane Davison, Noreen Harwood, and Althea Moniz. Let's convince them that two or three things well done will earn more. money than a continuous series of little things. It soure would be nice to get into the same bracket money wise as our neighbor Penn Valley. But since Rough and Ready doesn’t have an annual rodeo we'll just have to progress 4 little more slowly. Our fire dept. has made remarkable progress in the few years since its formation in the early '60s, Two fire trucks and a new fire house attest to that. R&R On December 23, outdoor lighting display judges, Mrs. Lisetta Scheave, Stanley Eby, and ex officio member Don Long, chamber president, spént two hours touring the area viewing outdoor lighting displays. There were 31. They selected as best lighting the display in the mobile homes park by the John Bogans, For the childrens category the Joseph Lees on Rough and Ready Road won out. And for the religious category the Hugh Dunbars on Hwy, 20 were the lucky ones. Honorable mention was made in each category. For childrens it was the Ken Beaties. For the religious category the Bert Spaits got recognition, And for best fighting, Mrs, Herta Schaefer and her mother, Mrs, Elsie Dickson, on Ponderosa Way, got the nod. As Chauffer fro the group, I heard interesting comments on the Willis, Perrys, the W. H. Pendergrafts, the William Waxners, the C, G. Coopers, the William Bursills, the William Hardins and others too numerous to mention. This is a far cry from the first lighting contest in 1967 when, if memory serves me correctly, there were a total of six displays to view. R&R In last week's news about the Community Christmas Party I missed two young people who sang with Eugene Trautwein's choral group from Ready Springs School. They were Jim Gordon and Christy Hively. The group was. a fine bunch-of youngsters and deserve a lot of credit for the pleasure they contributed to our party. / : ny R&R The art show that was held at the halt earlier that same day had six Rough and.Ready exhibitors. The old hall was filled from the floor to as high as pictures could be seen with fine paintings. The artists from Rough and Ready who exhibited were Mmes. Grace Jansen, Violet Kavka, and Lucille McCrea. The gentlemen were Marion Harwood, Rudolph Landendorfer, and Nick Vogt. They all work in various mediums but most of the work hung was in oil. Lucille McCrea and Niek Vogt were the exceptions. Nick's love at the moment is watercolor and he is good at it and Lucille showed mostly charcoal work, I'm no artist so I can't discuss quality, but the show was facinating and a popular success in spite of the dreadful weather. One demonstration done for the viewers was a charcoal of each other done, while posing, by Rudolph Lanzendorfer and Nick Vogt. Naturally Nick added watercolor highlights to his. . The John Schusters hadguests for Christmas, Mrs. Schuster's mother Mrs, Zimmerman came from Palo Alto to spend a few days with her daughter. To make Christmas dinner more complete they were joined by neighbor Mrs, Hazel Easley who lives alone. Botti Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs, Easley are 82 years old and enjoy each other's company, e R&R eoepte Mrs, Esther Bixler spent several days before Christmas visiting her sisters, Mrs, Dorothy Thomas and Mrs, Alma Mansie in San Francisco, 3 R&R : The Ken Beaties had their daughter Karen, Mrs. Ted Olson of southern California, and. her family home for the holidays. : ae R&R” ) _ The new store in the old Rough and Ready Post Office building has opened its doors but is not really ready yet reports Lucille McCrea, The McCreas had planned a Christmas drawing which came off on schedule, The two clever dolls made by Mrs, Goldie Taresch were won by sumed a landscape architectpoMrs, Florence Jennings of Rough and Ready Road and Mrs. M, Sanders of Penn Valley, Mrs, sition in the Tahoe National Jennings won Raggedy Andy and Mrs. Sanders won Raggedy Ann, Hage Forest, Supervisor Henry E, Branagh announced today. Modee formerly served as an architect in the regional head_ R&R I love the tinsel and glitter of Christmas but especially since the big event we have just quarters at San Francisco, He relaxed and enjoyed, the Peace and Joy that is the real Christmas. For some preverse reason will develop and implement the New Year brings, for me, a lot of sadness, I have never minded the years passing for mylandscape management techself, but there is something about the ending of the old year that depresses me, When the New niques in all phases of TNF Year gets under way I shall look forward with gusto to the promise that each new day holds. I administration, , only. wish that the whole, wide, world could have as much,
