It’s history and photographer John Hart’s camera
recorded the story of Nevada County in 1976.
The story is sad. Mother Nature and a carelessly
_discarded flame combined in causing a fire that left many
homeless near North San Juan as well as scorching the
county’s greatest resource — land.
The story is happy. The serenity of the county, when
sought out, remained. Rivers, mountains, valleys and
towns offered — more often than not — the easy going life
both residents and visitors have come to expect.
Film makers took more than a passing interest in the
county’s unique qualities.
The story will go on. County voters turned out in
record numbers to cast their ballots for representatives at
all levels of government. x
In 1977 they will have the opportunity of analyzing
their choices when the county faces the good and the bad
of another year.
