When that step is taken, Sainthood is an accomplished fact. Rev. Moholy reminds students of Serra’s life and dedication to the Holy Church, that ‘‘a saint’ can have’ no indication of character weakness. A dynamic . personality, Serra practiced to the very end his motto: ‘‘Always go forward, and never go back.” “Fr. Serra,’’ Moholy explains, “came to California at the age of55. In those times, missionaries volunteered for a decade of duty and Serra, who had already. served for 18 years in Mexico, could-have returned to Spain at any time, especially as he was often known to be in very poor health.” Pope Paul VI has, according _ to Moholy, “mentioned a desire to promote national heroes during the 1975 Holy Year, which coincides: with the American Bicentennial.” ’ _In-October, Rev.
