varying degrees when two electric trains, loaded with morning

~Gene Stratton Porter, famous novelist and short story writer,
died of injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Los Angeles. Mrs.
«Porter’s books were “best sellers’’ of 1924 and some of them had
been adapted for film making. She had been a resident of the movie
capital for five years prior to her death. Her husband, a banker in
an Eastern city, was notified of the accident and flew west, eerie
only minutes before she expired.
Sierra County schools had been closed due to a “frightening
epidemic’’ (five cases reported) of infantile paralysis in the area.
