“Are we going to chop out of the ice today and
head. South, or are you still expecting a
glorious Indian Summer?”
C. Anders Holman, a former
deputy’ district attorney for
Santa Clara county, has accepted the position of deputy for
Nevada county.
. Millen Tuesday told supervisors
he had selected Holman because
of the former Santa Clara
county man’s extra. ordinary
qualifications for the job. He
said the new deputy has made
“quite a record” for himself in
ears. And that he has had
experience in jury trials and
other areas which will benefit
this county. Because of the extra
ordinary qualifications .MacMillen. asked supervisors _ to:
consider upping the new em,Dloye’s salary. He said he un‘derstood that the board takes
such qualifications into cdnsideration when setting. the
starting pay for employes.
MacMillen explained the new
“ employe gave up a higher salary
and opportunity. for. advancement in Santa Clara
county because he wants to live
here. He said he had ‘‘made. no
promises’ but hoped for board
. consideration of his request.

was told that within the next two
months the board will study the
survey which adjusts salaries

attorney, under the new scale,
would get more money than =
MacMillen requested. He was
hired ata starting salary of
$1,142 monthly.
In other action supervisors set
January 14 as the time for a
public hearing on proposed
changes of the Air Pollution
Control District Rules and
Regulations. ‘
A short public hearing was
held Tuesday. However,
because of certain recommendations for. changes on the
rules .and: regulations, which
have been circulated the new
hearing was necessary.
Nevada is among the nine
counties which recently withdrew from the Sacramento
Valley Air Basin to form a
Mountain Counties Basin. Ron
Earles, air pollution district:
officer, hopes that: the county
rules will be the same as the new
district’s regulations.
No testimony was heard at the
hearing Tuesday.
In other action the boarddenied a claim filed by Tahoe
Forest Hospital for medical
expenses of three indigent aliens
illegally in the United States.
The trio was treated in the
hospital after being injured in an
~ accident on Highway Int. 80.
They were riding in a stolen
vehicle.
County Counsel advised the
county legally ‘‘can” pay for
medical and ambulance expenses of prisoners, aliens and
run-away minors, but that it is
not mandatory:
