Many drivers do not realize the difference that ice or snow can. make when it comes to controlling their vehicles. Above all motorists should drive at reduced speeds, accelerate slowly and try not to spin the wheels. Driving ‘‘blind’’ can be disastrous. Motorists should always defrost the windshield and windows inside their vehicle as well as clearing the snow and ice from outside before starting to drive. If necessary or required, use your tire chains. Your chances of sliding off the roadway into a ditch or being involved in an accident are greatly reduced. Use your brakes lightly — don’t slide your wheels. Try to use lower gears and let the engine compression slow your car. If the car does start to skid, it is usually because you are driving too fast, braking too hard and locking the wheels, or breaking traction by spinning the power wheels.
