Sonera land ARRAN cet ibe Cedar Ridge Boy In Pass, Punt Test SAN FRAN CISCO---Five. Northern California boys, including one from Cedar Ridge in Nevada County, have been named regional winners for the San Francisco 49ers area in the second annual Punt, Pass, and Kick contest sponsored by the National Football League and the Ford dealers. They will compete for national PP&K honors at the 49ers-Green Bay game Sunday in San Francisco's Kezar Stadium. The regional winners, one each inthe seven through 11 age-group, are: Roy Perkins, 7, Cedar Ridge; Michael Fry, 8, Selma; Arthur Olson, 9, South San Francisco; Dennis Axell, 10, South San Francisco; and Barry Murphy, 11, Alameda. While in San Francisco for there gional competition, the five winners will be honored at a banquet Saturday at the Villa Hotel in San Mateo. Each of the boys will receive a junior NFL uniform which he will wear in the regional competition in Kezar Stadium the next day. In the regional contest, the five winners will display their PP&K prowess andtry to qualify for a Tour of Champions and the showdown: competition for national honors, In total, there are 70 regional winners throughout the country--one from each age groupinthe 14NFL team areas, These winners were selected on the basis of highest total scores achieved in local "Punt, Pass, and Kick” contests which were sponsored by Ford dealers throughout the country. Nationally, some 400,000 youngsters took part. From the 14 regional contests, scores achieved by the regional winners will be used to determine champions in each age bracket for both the Eastern and Western division of the NFL. SSC Frosh Top Sierra 53 To 44 SACRAMENTO---The Sacramento State Frosh went out in front’ with three minutes left in the game and stayed there, downing the Sierra College Wolverines 53-44 in the first contest of the year for both squads. Coach George Goto's Wolverines tied the gameand were ahead at half a dozen points in the game. The Wasps won it on better shooting percentage and hard ups. Goto's young squad produced the game's high scorer though, as Stu Waite, a South Tahoe freshman, hit for 17 points. Jim Thomas had 16 for the winners. Guard and playmaker Joe Franco made 10 points, all but two on fine outside set shots. Franco is the only soph on the young Sierra team.
