hopes and expectations of its
friends. It is a financial success and its construction is
such that its safdty is assured. Pessimistic fears of

The Cass Scenic Railroad in
West Virginia winds through the
pastoral countryside to the end
of the line at the top of the
mountain, using one or two Shay
type locomotives to pull the
train. The railroad suffered a
near disastrous fire recently and
it was only through the heroic
efforts of the crew that the antique locomotives and cars were
saved from the holocaust. The
next day passengers riding on
the railroad went past the still
smouldering ruins of the machine shop unaware of the terrible night their crew had put in
fighting the fire.
