100th installation
The 100th installation of offi.
cers for Evangeline Chapter °
No. 9, Order of Eastern Star,
was held recently at the Nevada
City Masonic Hall,
Beverly Kilroy was installed
as worthy matron and Wallace
Krill, the worthy patron for
1973. Beverly is the third generation member of her family
to serve as worthy matron.
Her mother, Doris Scholefield,
served as worthy matron of
Evangeline Chapter in 1959, and
her grandmother, Elfriede Lawrence, served in 1943,
She was escoreted to the altar
wearing a blue and silver gown
and carrying her mother’s white
Bible, with a large white orchid
attached.
Serving as host for the evening
was Demar Dundas who presided
as worthy patron with her
mother in 1959. Dundas gave
the address of welcome to the
capacity crowd of members and
friends in attendance. His wife,
Thelma Dundas, PM, was hostess.
Installing officers were the
outgoing worthy matron, Jane
Sommers, and outgoing worthy
patron, Sam Weiss. Harriet
Kittredge, PM, was Bible bearer and chaplain. Escorting the
Bible was Jill Worley, Worthy
Advisor, and Vickie Morrison,
Past Worthy Advisor, of Nevada City Assembly, Order of
Rainbow for Girls, Installing
marshals were Jeannette McMasters, PM, and Roberta Day,
PM, organist was Meda Snow,
PM, and flag bearer, Ernest
Kittredge, PP.
Other officers installed for
1973 were Jane Walter, associate matron; Eugene Walter,
associate patron; June Evans,

Schaegelen, Lily Ann Eden, and
Lois Howell, The lodge room
and banquet hall was decorated
in arrangements of lilacs, the
flower of the year, in silver
bowls, by June Evans, chairman
of decorations and her cochairman, Rosa Christensen.
State shares
taxes with
county, cities
Apportionment of state taxes
collected in November was sent
to Nevada county and its two incorporated cities this week.
Nevada county received $893,09 from the motor vehichle in
lieu tax, $53,112.47 from the
highway users tax and $3,739.29
from the cigarette tax.
Grass Valley received $228.79
from the in lieu tax, $3,468.97
from highway users tax and
$2,627.14 from the cigarette tax,
Nevada City's portions were
$104.95 from the in lieu fund,
$1,807.83 from highway users
tax fund and $980.10 from cigarette smokers' tax.

Baha‘is to
-observeHuman
Rights’ Day
The Baha'is of Western Nevada county are planning a public program for Euman Rights
Day, Dec. 10, sponsored by the
Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the Nevada Judicial
District.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Turner,
both noted Baha'i lecturers, will
speak on the theme ofthis year's
Baha'i observance, "JusticeThe Divine Standard for Peace."
The program will take place at
2 p.m. at the United Methodist
Church Hall, 433 Broad St., Nevada City.
Alice Nelson, chairman for
this event, pointed out the Baha'is see human rights as Godgiven rights. In astatement concerning human rights the National Baha'i Assembly stated
"Discrimination, or unjust restrictions against persons under
any pretext poisons our relationships and thereby creates conflicts which threaten to destroy
our civilization. The recognition
that mankind belongs to one family under one God brings with
it the responsibility to respect
and to help one another in every
way."
The public is invited to attend.
There will be entertainment and
refreshments and there is no admission charge.
Deadlines set
on seasonal
employment
Northern California Congressman Harold T. (Bizz)
Johnson today announced deadlines for filing applications for
seasonal employment next summer with the Department of Interior beginning Jan. 15.
The National Park Service,
which each year attracts thousands of applications, has set
Jan. 15 as the cut-off date for
receipt of these applications. —
The Bureau of.Land Management, another employer of summer help, has set its deadline
one month later.
Congressman Johnson said the
recruitment for many seasonal
positions will be concentrated in
the areas where the work will be
available, however, said applications may be filed either with
the field installations or with
the Department of Interior in
Washington, D.C.
A standard form 171, available at post offices, Civil Service Commission offices, and
other federal agencies should
be filed with the appropriate
agency, along with a copy of the
Notice of Rating from the Summer Employment Examination
where required, with the-National Park Service or the Bureau of Land Management, as appropriate.
