Special ceremonies will be held honoring District Deputy Grand Master, Roman Rozinski; Press Chairman Jean Brass, and Heart Chairman, Doris Bertram, at the meeting of Neva Rebekah Lodge No. 119, of Nevada City, on December 13 in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall on Broad Street, Nevada City. & Also Mr. andMrs. Fred Rudisill will be honored for having devoted more then fifty years each in the work of the lodge. There will be a final nomination of officers with Noble Grand Esther Foster presiding. Mrs. Foster will also entertain her officers and committee chairman for the past year. The annual Christmas party will be at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, for all members of the lodge, their families and friends. Each adult is asked to bring a wrapped gift marked fora manorwoman. Also for each child attending, a wrap ped gift, with the child's name attached, mustbe brought. Entertainment, refreshments and Santa will be provided. * * K * Dinner Held For Retiring Hi-way Dept. Employees Mr. John (Jack) M. Griffith and Mr. LeonardE, Humphreys, accompanied by their wives, were honored guests atano host dinner party Nov. 19 at the Bret Harte Hotel in Grass: Valley. The happy occasion marked the retirement.of both men from the Div. ision of Highways; Mr. Griffith having completed 38 years and Mr. Humphreys 30 years of employment with the Division. Approximately 200 guests witnessed the presentation to Mr. Humphreys of a radio and a toy motor grader, the vehicle operated by’ Humphreys during his employment. Mr. Griffith was presented with a 265-2471 Daughters of the Nile Christmas . Party Set Daughters of the Nile Club No. 4, of Grass Valley,will hold their annual Christmas party at 12 noon, Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Bret Harte Inn. Sewing chairman, Ruth Bennett, will be in charge of arrangements and reservations. All Daughters of the Nile are welcome to attend and are asked to bring a Christmas exchange gift. President Delia Gordon will be in charge of the business session, Following luncheon, 'the club members will convene at the home of Flossie Clark, in Grass Valley, where the Christmas gifts will be exchanged. Esther Rebekah Lodge to Elect Election of officers will be held at Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 9 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Independent
Order of Odd Fellows Hall, 110% Mill Street, Grass Valley. Noble Grand Zale Johnson will preside. Preceding the meeting the annual Christmas birthday dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., in the dining hall of the lodge. Formal dress will not be required. ** KX The-Nevada County Council for Retarded Children will meet tonight at the Gold Flat School. Humphreys as they appeared at the retirement dinner ofMr. Humphreys from the Division of Highways. 6 ae ped A al 7 7,7 ah J VV Es Nevada County Historical Society Holds Annual meeting ‘Nevada County Historical Society held its annual meeting Thursday night in the Auditorium of the Elementary School in Nevada City. Some 60 members and guests were served a bountiful meal and participated in the annual election of Officers for the year 1967. Al Johnson, Nevada City Attorney was elected President; Esther Hartung, of Grass Valley, Secretary and Mrs. I.A. Creegan, Nevada City, Treasurer. Past President Mrs. Richard Shoemaker, addressed the gathering and complimented the entire Board and Officers for a job well done in 1966. ‘President Johnson, outlined plans for the work to be done by the Society during the coming year and recounted completed projects during the past year. A choral group of well, trained boys and girls from the Nevada Union High School sang a medley of Christmas carols ina most satisfying manner. In fact this group of singers is one of the best we have heard in a long time. It was announced that this was their first appearance for the new season. We predict they will give a lot of plthis year. Mr. and Mrs. ‘Joseph E. Day. and family at the easure in their future appearances. Mr. Parker Stortz, Recreation C om missioner for Nevada County gave a well prepared outline of the problems facing our area in the important field of recreation facilities and their use. He predicted that before many years our entire area willbecome a mecca for tourists and local folk who seek to enjoy the out doors, many things must be done to prepare for them and it will require work of the Planning Departmentand the Recreation De partment in cooperation with State and Federal agencies to insure the safety and well being of all our citizens who make Nevada County their playarea. He suggested that a careful study ‘must be made at once and work started to insure that our county's best recreationareas are secured and protected so that we will not get into the type of trouble now in the offing at Lake Tahoe. Membership dues in the Nevada County Historical Society are set at $1.00 per year. At this time President Al Johnson asked ‘that a goal of 500 members be set for time the Days were installed as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron at the 94th Installation of Officers of Evenageline Chapter, No. 9, Order of tHe Eastern Star, of Nevada City.
