Celebrated November 20
Judith Valdez and Curtis
Giles were united in marriage November 20, in
St. Canice Catholic Church of Nevada City.
Father William Daly officiated at the double ring
ceremony.
Judy,as she is known to
her many friends, is the
daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Valdez of
Nevada City. Mrs.
Beulah Giles and the late
Eugene Giles of Keokuk,
Iowa, are the parents of
the groom.
The bride, escored by
her father who later gave
her in marriage, was
charming as she came
down the isle in a selfstyled gown of brocaded
satin, featuring a round
neckline, long tapered
sleeves and full skirt.
Her fingertips silk illusion veil was secured by
a crown of pearls.
Mary Casci was the
maid of honor. She was
gowned in yellow-brocade.
Derald Giles;-brothe r of
the groom, attended as
best man. Jim Valdez,
brother of the bride, and
Ronald Olsen, cousin of
the groom, were the ushers.
Robert Peterson sang
"Ave Maria" before the
ceremony accompanied
by Mrs. Elsie DeMattei.
Judy, since her graduation from Nevada Union
High School, has been
employed in Sacramento.
Following the ceremony,
a reception was held at
Seaman's Lodge, which
was highlightedby the
traditional cutting of the
wedding cake.

also contained some of
the 25the wedding anniversary decorations used
by the bride's parents
for their silver anniversary.
Among the out of town
guests were the groom's
mother, Mrs. Giles from
Iowa; the Paul Gallaghers
and Paulette, Reno, Nevada; the Richard Giles,
Big Bear Lake; the Donald Rousars and Christina, Mrs. Margaret Valdez and Phil, Linda
Casci, Diana Gelatt and
Melody Lane, Sacramento. Also Carol Purvis and her mother, close
friends of the bride, flew
from Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the wedding.
The newlyweds are at
home in Pocatello, Idaho,
where the groom is currently stationed while
attending school in the
United States Navy.

Hare of Grass Valley,
are the parents of a son
born Nov. 18, at the
Sierra Nevada Memorial
Hospital.

Johnsons offices phoned
last week that the National Christmas Tree,
cut from the Nevada
County Forest recently,
and sent to Washington
D.C, by train had arrived in excellent condition. It is to be erected
between the White House
andthe Washington Monument and is to be surrounded by 53 small
Christmas trees, representing all the states and
territories and all the
trees will be decorated by
mid-December for the
annual lighting by President Johnson.

Heavy rains that washed
away much of the snow
following a very successful Thanksgiving opening at local ski resorts,
were followed by snow the
end of last week allowing all resorts inthe area
to re-open. Precipitation during November
reached just over 8 inches, compared with a
normal of 5.3 inches for
this date.

Supervisor Henry Loehr
reported that six additional temporary road employees have been hired
by the county to help
handle snow removal
work. County crews
work around the clock
during and after storms
to keep the roads clear.

and their children have
recently returned from
two weeks vacation, part
of which they spend in
the Bay Area with Mrs.
Taylor's parents and the
rest in Crescent City witn
other relatives. Ken is
the assistant manager of
the local branch of the
Bank of America.

The recent marriage of
Robert Frates to Linda
Lynch was held in her
parents home in Palm
Springs. Robert is well
known here and attended
local schools before his
enlistment in the U.S.
Navy. His mother,
Marge Frates flew by jet
to attend the ceremony
and enjoyed her visit to
the southland.

ONE MAN ART SHOW NOW OPEN
Robert Gilberg, a well
known Nevada City artist,
opened a one man show at
The Gallery, on Commercial St., in Nevada
City, last Sunday. The
show will continue through the first week in
January and will be comprised of his latest paintings.
Mr. Gilberg iswell
known in northern California, and has hada
one-man show as early
as 1941, when he was
invited for two years to
the Paul Elder Gallery

in San Francisco. He has
been listed in the "Who's
Who in American Art"
since 1956.
The members of the
Nevada ,City Artists
Association are especially indebted to Mr.
Gilberg as he was one of
the founders of the now
well established Gallery in Nevada City.
