Frolic on lake snow dangerous
Skiers and snow buggy enthusiasts who frolic on snow and
ice-covered lakes in the Sierra
got this special warning today:
The name of their game is
danger.
Pacific Gas and Electric
Company, for one, has posted
signs in a number of areas to
alert winter visitors to high
country hazards. In some cases,
however, these signs have been
ignored.

Supervisors Report
SACRAMENTO — Apportionment of $56,764 of federal
grazing fees to designated
counties for the year ended
June 30, 1970, was announced
today by State Controller Houston I, Flournoy.
Each county's amount varied
greatly depending” on the extent of grazing lands within the
county. San Bernardino County
received the largest warrant
for $17,475. Nevada county's
share was $57.56,
The money is collected by
the Federal Bureau of Land
Management from stockmen
who graze herds ’on federal
land under provisions of the
Taylor Grazing Act.
By law the funds must be
used by the counties towards
range improvement and control of predatory animals.the

The complicated procedure of
assessment bonds tofinance-improvements in special districts
and some subdivisions was explained to Nevada county's supervisors Tuesday.
Edwin Ness, the county's at_torney in this technical field,
( 4, made these points.
Cities, county
receive taxes
The January apportionment of
the cigarette tax and highway
users taxes were distributed to
all cities and counties. in California, controller Houston
Flournoy announced today.
Nevada County received
$3,376 in cigarette “tax and
$46,809 as highway users tax,
. Grass Valley received $2,618
cigarette tax and $3,325 highway users tax, Nevada City received $1,045 cigarette tax
and $1,662 in highway users
taxes.
--Bonds from the 1915 act
are used most often because
they are sold before the work
begins, allowing progress payments to the contractor.
--These bonds have as security behind them both the property and the general county government. If a delinquency occurs, the county could be forced
to make it up.
--To avoid forcing a levy on
the county, assessment districts
are required to place three per
cent of the construction cost
in a revolving fund to pay such
delinquencies. This three per
cent is levied on the properties in addition to the construction amount.
Supervisors indicated they
wanted a rundown of the aspects
of the situation because none of
them were on the board when
some of these proceedings were
started several years ago. Special districts in the Truckee
area have used these assessments extensively,,
