How we do grow! For a long
time Rough and Readyans have
been fretting about their population which was listed as 125
people but which was very definitely more. One thing that's
been holding up a proper count
was the lack of established
boundaries, In the old days the
whole area from McCourtney
Road, to the Yuba and Deer
Creek, and to Grass Valley and
Nevada City was all part of
Rough and Ready. There are
still “old. timers" who live in
and beyond Penn Valley -who
count themselves as. Rough
and Readyans, Many even have
Rough and Readv mailing addresses, We're proud of them
but they won't let us count them.
Twelve years ago, when we were
new here, the whole area was
ali one voting precinct. Now.
Rough and Ready Precinct is
bounded on the East by the Bitney Springs Road (the West side
is ours), on the West by the
Penn Valley, by Deer Creek to
the North and by the crest of
the ridge to the South of us.
This is the area we used as a
population base for our new
count which the Calif. State
Hwy. Dept. has promised to correct for us on the Highway 20
signs.

Speaking of voting precincts
reminds me, have you sent your
. “purge card back to the county
clerk's office yet? If youmissed
last year's Primary and General Elections the county clerk
will. have notified you;that your..
affidavit of registration is being
withdrawn from the list of qualified voters. If you don't notify
them not to do this by February 20, it will be necessary for
you to register again before
you can vote, California does
have the: permanent registration law but you sacrifice your
registration when you don't use
it at either the Primary or General Elections.

Big corporations still have a
heart! PG and E proved this last
Friday night by coming down
to Rough and Ready and replacing a fuse for Mrs, Paull. Her
lights just "pouffed" out about
8:30 p.m. She. is unable to do
these things for herself and her
neighbor Jack Bixler, who
usually helps her out of her dilemmas, was out gadding around
some place. Mr. Atkins, the kind
gentleman, who came down to
restore her lights for her, has
been with PG and E in this area
for 35 years. ae

Mrs. Violet Hawson who has
just settled down here in her
new mobile home, is taking a
few days off to visit her father
in Bishop, California.
Mrs. Julia Cole is home again
from the hospital. This was her
. third visit there in recent weeks,
She is feeling fine now and thinks
everything is under control.

Rough and Ready is going to
have a couple of. new babies to
announce, Surely by next week.
The stork has been most uncooperative. Babies are ‘still a
novelty. in our community.
Questionable phrase.even with
our retirement type population.
I do believe though that our
population is getting a little
younger, :

Since I haven't been feeling
up to getting out and around I've
lost track of what's happening
around town. So I don't. have
“much news for you again this
morning. I'm more familiar with
the two deer who have. been
grazing on the hill back of the
barn each morning and evening
and with the new baby lamb,
than I am with people these
days. The deer are getting used
to me, They finish what they're
eating before they start working their way back into the
brush. I guess I haven't been
moving fast enough to frighten
them,
