Store owner, EXPANDED...Roy Marcher, Save More Variety shows his store's expanded area which features patterns and yardage goods. Although the expanded department is now wellstocked, Marcher said that additional material is onthe way to add variety and to offer a wider selection to the customer. Recreational use of the 17 National Forests in California climbedto more than 24 million visitor days during 1963. Regional Forester Chas. A. Connaughton said today., The figure nearly doubles that of a decade ago. The Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests in Southern California shared honors for the highest total use, the Angeles reporting 3, 184, 400 visits; but the San Bernardina National Forest had longer stays on-its developed recreation areas, racking up a . total 2,969,200 visitor days of us. The Inyo also led the California Region with 284,700 visitor RECREATIONAL USE.UP. days of wilderness area use. In winter sports, the Tahoe National Forest led all the others with 333, 400 visitor days. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows accounted for a large share of this total. Other forms of recreation in.cluded hiking, horseback riding, hunting, picnicking, the use of organization camps, resorts and summer homes in the National Forests. Connaughton said that the Forest Service is striving to put up with this increasing use of the National Forests by providing new camp and picnic grounds, visitor centers and trails for National Forest visitors as rapidly as possible. Bookstore Plans Set At Sierra Plans for a new Sicha College student body owned-and=operated bookstore building are now before the State board of Architecture and School Building planners, college Business Manager Geroge Alman-inform-ed trustees this month. The 2500 square foot, $60,000 structure should go to bids on March 15, with construction sought before the fallterm, 1964. The present bookstore is a converted faculty dining room in the cafeteria. g Beg" ' P96T ‘eT Areniqoy** Baxter Bid On Highway A low bid of $240,661 wasreceived last week by the State Division of Highways to construct an interchange on Interstate 80 at Crystal Springs Road in Placer County about half a mile west of Baxter. A. Teichert & Son, Inc. of Sacramento was lowest of seven bidders, according to officials at the Marysville district office. Construction will begin in four to six weeks and is expected to be completed in another seven months, Traffic will be allowed contunuous use of the highway but may be restricted to one lane in each direction during certain phases of construction at which time public announcement will be made.
