The National Health Service
Corps ‘will consider ~
Downieville’s request for .a fulltime physician to meet the
mountain town’s medical needs.
At present a Loyalton doctor
makes a visit to Downieville
once a week. Susan H. Pieper, .
of the health council,
noted that Downieville has 700
full-time residents, hundreds of
summer dwellers and more than
150,000 tourist visitor days each
summer.
The local Lions Club applied to .
NHSC for a full-time doctor in
1972, but “the problem in the
past has been that no one has
been willing to make the
investment to come here,” Mrs.
Pieper said. g
The local health council is
seeking funds for a_ fullyequipped medical clinic and
housing for a physician from
other sources, she added. At
present, one of two Loyalton
doctors makes the 48-mile trip
over Yuba Pass each Tuesday.
‘The NHSC provides doctors
for two years at no cost to
communities whose applications
are approved.

The Sierra Nevada District of Boy
Scouts of America has eight in its band of
eagles; eight Eagle Scouts. —
The scouts are Mike Mintline, Darrin
Moore, Mark Berkler, Dan DeLapp,
William Brown, Richard Brown, Richard
Annin and Rich Jones. :
Grass Valley, Nevada City,
Downieville and Colfax areas comprise the
Sierra Nevada District. :
To achieve the eagle scout rank, a boy
has to have shown a sign of personal
accomplishment and dedication as
wearing the eagle badge commands the
respect of scouts and _ scouters
internationally. It is justly worn with
pride. 2
Congratulations to the eight. eagles
and to all scouts, those just starting out
and those who have almost reached the
pinnacle.
