At present a Loyalton doctor makes a visit to Downieville once a week. Susan H. Pieper, . of the health council, noted that Downieville has 700 full-time residents, hundreds of summer dwellers and more than 150,000 tourist visitor days each summer. The local Lions Club applied to . NHSC for a full-time doctor in 1972, but “the problem in the past has been that no one has been willing to make the investment to come here,” Mrs. Pieper said. g The local health council is seeking funds for a_ fullyequipped medical clinic and housing for a physician from other sources, she added.
