The enthusiasm of the beautiful weather has the people of

Marty Dahl, son of Barbara
Nix, was home over the weekend from Shasta College. Miss
Katie Clifford from Lake county was a guest at the Nix home
over the weekend. It was alovely Sunday for bike riding and
that's just what Teri Dahl and
Katie Clifford did. Got out the
ten speeds and rode down to
Lake Wildwood and back.
The Nix's and the Dillberg's
are at the present time sharing
a dog. In December, when the
Nix's were in Washington State,
we sort of adopted little Brandy,
a black and tan toy Dachshund,
The weather was bad in December and Brandy soon learned to enjoy life at our house
while her people were away. Now
a visit from Brandy is an every
day occurence, when Barbara
lets Brandy out in the morning,
it takes Brandy a few minutes
to walk down the street to our
house and bingo she's at the
door, asking to come in. Brandy
is a darling, the only problem
is our little Dachshund has a
nose that is way out of joint.

rode to Warnke's and up the back

as far as the Filer Ranch on
Ponderosa Way where they enjoyed a wiener roast. I understand that one of the youngest
members of the group, Troy

stayed with the group to the
end. Lenngs Foster had the misfortune to fall from her horse
when it shied.

Special delivery mail
speedup to get test
Something new in the U.S.
mails was announced here today
by Nevada City Postmaster W.
J. Wasley. It's a 60-day initial
test of a system to speed up
special delivery letters and
packages.
"The need for the program,
which will visibly separate special delivery mail from other
mail as it moves between post
offices, has been indicated by
special test mailings,"" Wasley
said.

Special delivery letters and
parcels in the entire U.S, Postal
Service's Western Region will
now be enclosed in transparent
plastic bags imprinted with the
word "Speedy" in large green
letters. This new identification
will prevent special delivery
pieces from being overlooked
or intermixed with regular
first-class mail at receiving
stations.
The new operation will be
evaluated on a daily basis by
test mailings during the next
60 days.
The "Speedy" program will
be executed at 4,499 post offices
in the Western Region which
encompasses the 13 Western
states including Alaska and Hawaii. Fostmaster Wasley said
that studies have shown special
delivery mail to be liable to
delay within post offices when
1 it gets intermixed with standard
first-class mail. This causes
it to miss special delivery
runs",
Wasley pointed out that the
' public also frequently contributes to slow movement of special delivery mail because of
‘ the unwise habit of dropping
special delivery mail into street
collection boxes or other mail
deposit points without checking
whether there will be a reasonably quick pickup afterwards.
