Policy adopted on use
A policy on the use of school
property for public purposes
was adopted by the Nevada Union
High School Board of Trustees
at their meeting Monday.
The policy was drafted after
the recent controversy over use
of the high school for Vietnam
Moratorium activities.
Most of the policy drafted by
Supt. Gerald Gelatt and twotrustees, C, Jackson Rayburn andR.
Peter’ Ingram, followed the California Education Code except
for three paragraphs:
"Any community group using
the facilites will be totally responsible for seeing that the
premises are left in a clean
and orderly condition and for
any damages~to the building,
fixtures or equipment.
“Any organization requesting
use of district buildings and
grounds must be a bona fide
Nevada county organization with
adult: officers: and -have an established background of service
in the county that would indicate the ability to meet all
conditions set forth in this policy.
"All applications must be reviewed by the NUHS superintendent and if necessary by the
board." /
People using school buildings
of NUHS by public
must sign a statement saying
their meeting is not for the purpose of plotting the overthrow
of the government. Applications
may be made at the office at the
high school, '
In other business the trustees
accepted a restatement of educational philosophy.
The educational ‘philosophy
was presented to the trustees at
a recent meeting by a citizen's
committee which is working on
district goals and objectives.
The revised philosophy varies
a little from the previous ‘one,
with a few words in one paragraph changed to provide new
emphasis and clarification.
In the new version the objective “is to provide the students with the necessary skills
to become self-supporting, and
to impart to them the ideals of

to let Grass Valley School District complete the purchase of

In what seemed almost a
minor sidelight to Monday's
board meeting, Supt. Vernon
Bond said there is an indication
some private investors may be
interested “in buying $31,500
worth, of bonds for a short
period,
The= period would be three,
five or six years. if a threeyear repayment is required, the
Grass Valley district's bond redemption tax would have to increase six cents. If the payback
is over six years, an additional
three-cent tax would be needed.
The district needs $31,500 to
go with the $128,500 already
available toward ‘the purchase
