Probation staff seeks
homes for teen-agers
The Nevada County Probation
Department is. seeking foster
homes for some teen-age boys
and girls who otherwise may
have to remain in juvenile hall.
William Heafey, chief of the
department, said these young
people, in the 14-17 age bracket, are not delinquent. He described them as attractive and
of average or above average intelligence, but said they lack
basic home training.
They come from homes where
for various reasons parents are
incapable of enforcing discipline, Heafey said.
The probation officers feel
that these boys and girls can
profit by living in.a stable home
pa by two responsible parents.
Some of the qualifications for
foster parents as outlined by
Heafey include the ability to set
and enforce behavior limits, and
to give love and attention tofoster children. He indicated a
sense of humor is a vauable asset in dealing with teen-agers.
Foster parents are reimbursed for the care of children
placed in their home, Heafey
urges persons desiring more
information on the foster parent
program to contact him at the
probation office in the courthouse annex.
