District Ranger Ken Chilman
advised last week that recreation
use washeavy in the Downieville
District of Tahoe National Forest
during 1963. This was despite
highway reconstruction and flood
damaged facilities in several
ateas.
Statistics show a total of 46,750
recreation visits representing
about 190,000 man daysuse. Ap-_
proximately 39,000 of the total
number of visits were in the
camping and picnicking categories. These figures are comparable to those of 1962.

Chilman says recent completion of the new Keefer bridge
between Sierra City and Wild
Plum Campground will make
recreation use possible again in
that locality. Camping and picnicking at Wild Plum were curtailed during 1963 because of
flood destruction ofthe older
Keefer bridge. Flood damaged
campground facilities have been
almost completely repaired which
together with restored access at
Wild Plum point to a probable
increase in recreation use for
1964,
. ties are included in the chapter,
Local Women. _
