CRAYoy CORNER Lois Hamme Age 6 Mrs. Steven's First Grade Gold Flat School Johnson Sponsors Bill To Declare National Policy For Resources "A well-rounded program of natural resource conservation, development and utilization is essential tothe valley and mountain counties of Northern California and tothe nation as a whole" Congressman Harold T. Johnson stated last week. “Our natural resources play a vital part in our over-all effort to maintain national strength adequate to meet our responsibilities of leadership in the free world," "The use of our forests, rivers and soil must be husbanded, not exploited." Johnson Thursday introduced legislation calling for the declaration of a national policy on conservation, development and utilization of our valuable natural resources, The bill would give Congressional authority to the continuing policy that the Federal Government does have an obligation to conserve, develop and utilize our valuable natural resources in order to meet human, economic and national defense requirements, including recreational, wildlife, scenic and scientific values and the enhancement of the national heritage for future generations, One of the specific provisions of this proposal would extend the recognition of the tresponsibility to the President and would require annual reports on the condition of the soil, water, air, forests, grazing, minerals, wildlife, recreation and other natural resources with particular reference to attainment of multiple purpose use. . Inthis way the legislation would supplement the successful efforts of myself and a group of others who have large acreages of national forests in their districts, Johnson said. These efforts resulted in the enactment into law of the multiple use bill for the National Forest Service. “It also is my proposal that a Resources and Conservation Council be established by the President to assist in re~sources and conservation work, : "This council not only would have a beneficial effect of coordinating the resource conservation, development and utilization programs of the various agencies ofthe federal government, " Johnson said. -T he council would work with a Joint Committee on Resources and Conservation. which would be composed of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives This joint committee would carry on continuing studies in the field, Yuba College Registration _Up Registration at Yuba College has increased 15 per cent over the same date last year, it was revealed today ina report issued by vice president and registrar A.H, Brill.
