Modis the biginfluence, but after visiting the gift show in Los Angeles, I would not say it was the most outstanding, nor the one group, that I enjoyed most in accessories available for the home and elsewhere, The Spanish imports were the truly beautiful contribution at this 1967 showing. The dark rich woods were crafted and carved into every size and description of useful and ornamental decoration for the home, office and/or business, A small bench or what could be used charmingly as a settle.. remember them by the old fireplace?---cabinets, bookshelves — racks and servers for wine bottles, little stools and chairs and something that caught my ey e..an unusual holder for a wine bottle---a tall, carved figure, hinged to open, wherein the bottle could be completely concealed. These figuresre sembled those seen in monastaries and churches. Just beautifully crafted’ by artisans and polished slightly and, of course, made for a duo-purpose --beauty and usefulness, a nice combination when one can find it, and, most. suitable for our “, modern day home, . Something of note for collectors, shown by the Spain importers--swords, sabers, knives, etc,. Allsingularly, or in pairs, and also in grouped arrangements behind shields or a family crest, These were most decorative and could .be used. to accent that special niche in the home, Germany and the Scandinavian countries were showing tapestry. That wonderful old art favored © by: European royalty for several. centuries to depict stories of their experiences and conquests and to decorate their barren, cold-stone castle walls, These tapestries could easily be changed, as well as moved, from castle to castle as they toured their domain, permitting them to always have familiar possessions about them, However, these tapestries need not be used in castles, so to speak, but would lend beauty to most any of our modern day homes, There were two variations shown---one was the fine old .woven tapestry familiar to many, The second---printed fabric, backed. and quilted around the design and bordered usually in metallic braiding.: Although the newer versions are attractive and could be executed by those who enjoy working with needle and thread, the older woven tapestries were more my personal preference, What was shown for the Mod mood, was exceptionally well done, detailed and vividly colored, Wall plaques, statuary, decorative “ems such as ashtrays, access.wies, etc. Also throw-pillows, always in patterns, braided or appliqued and at for those who like to have Sunglasses and some jewelry -for women along with---are you ready?---Barefoot thongs and toe rings of delicate flowers and jewels, Next=--~-Fashion hints. BITE RAIN if NE AIRLOBEO Nt Zs Driving with Parking Lights Ilegal California Highway. Patrol. Commissioner Harold W, Sullivan last week reminded California motorists that it isillegal for them to drive with only their parking lights on, During the winter months in California many drivers have a habit of switching on their parking lights in the dusky morning and evening hours, This could be extremely dangerous because drivers approaching from the opposite direction could mistake them for the headlights, and the smaller size of parking lights could lead them to believe the car is much farther away thanitis. Ina passing or left turn situation a serious accident could result from this confusion about the distance between the cars, “There are no exceptions to this law," Sullivansaid, "“Parking lights must never be used alone-when the car is being driven," Extensive remodeling of the building is going on at M'Lady's Shop 227 Broad Street in.Nevada City.
