Deeble, 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs, Richard W, Deeble of 250 Gayle Lane, Banner Crest, Nevada City, has been awarded posthumously the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for heroic action in the Republic of Vietnam, which resulted in his death on April 18, 1970. The award for the Silver Star read in part: "First Lt. Deeble distinguished himself by gallantry inaction while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 18 April 1970 while serving as the commanding officer in. charge of Fire Support Base Den, assignel to Battery C, 2d Battalion, 40th Artillery, 199th Infantry Brigade, in the Republic of Vietnam.
