Nevada City war hero Deeble
awarded posthumous Silver Star
First Lt. James F. Deeble,
23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs,
Richard W, Deeble of 250 Gayle
Lane, Banner Crest, Nevada
City, has been awarded posthumously the Purple Heart and
the Silver Star for heroic action
in the Republic of Vietnam,
which resulted in his death on
April 18, 1970.
The award for the Silver Star
read in part:
"First Lt. Deeble distinguished himself by gallantry inaction
while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an
armed hostile force on 18 April
1970 while serving as the commanding officer in. charge of
Fire Support Base Den, assignel to Battery C, 2d Battalion, 40th Artillery, 199th Infantry Brigade, in the Republic of
Vietnam.
"On this date Fire Support
Base Den was attacked by a
heavily armed, reinforced company of North Vietnamese Army
soldiers. In the initial moments
of the attack, the enemy directed intense rocket, mortar
and small arms fire against the
artillery crews in the fire support base. Immediately and without. regard for his own safety,
Lt. Deeble moved from his protected position through the intense hostile fire and remained
in an exposed position in order
to direct artillery fire against
the attacking enemy.
Prier to his death, 1st Lt.
Deeble was awarded the Bronze
Star Medal with "V" Device;
the Army Commendation Medal,

Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Badge with Automatic Rifle
Bar and Sharpshooter Badge
with Rifle Bar.
Deeble was graduated from
Nevada Union High School, and
attended San Jose State College,
He was commissioned a second

an end to the
ncing check!
You don’t write a bouncing check on purpose. But sometimes it happens.
(Maybe you didn’t put in a deposit when you thought you did. Or, maybe
you slipped up on addition in your check register.) And there you are,
faced with a statement that says you’ve made an overdraft. It can be irritating.
And, sometimes, even embarrassing.
This is why Bank of America put
together some overdraft insurance
called Instant Cash Checking
Account Service. Once you’ve
applied and your credit’s been
