County To Host Annual — Assessor's Conference (Continued from Page 1) visors. This matter has been discussed from several angles in the past, but the action Monday was the first time the county had taken any positive steps on the matter, The most recent discussion of “the need for a recreation district in the county came at the monthly meeting of the Nevada County Weather NEVADA CITY Max. Nevada Irrigation District Manager Edwin Koster who attended the session to answer questions on the district's Yuba-Bear River project reservoirs, said that although the district plans to construct recreation facilities at the reservoirs with funds from a state Davis-Grunsky grant, the district is primarily in the water and not the recreation business, He suggested that the district would welcome a county recreation program that would oversee operation and maintenance of the new district recreation facilities, He noted that many inquiries had already been received from private parties wishing to lease the new recreation facilities, Nevada County Supervisor Neil Hennessy agreed with council members that a county“recreation program was necessary. Leonard Luglan, chairman of the council's recreation committee, said that in the near future California Youth Authority boys based at a new camp to be buily at Stockton, will be available locally for work on campgrounds, road clearing and other public projects, Game Warden Jack Witwer stated that the county should have a recreation commission with a paid director in order to be eligible for funds available from Various sources andalso to coordinate recreation in the county, This discussion at the Conservation Council became the springboard for the action of the supervisors Monday, ; Chairman Gene Ricker announced thatthe minimum $75,000 from the state's $150 million beaches and parks bond issue had been set aside for Nevada County and he wanted to know what the county was going to do with it. Hennessy briefly outlined the discussions at the Conservation Council meeting. He asked that a study group be established to examine the possibility of forming a recreation district. Hennessy and Ricker were. named as representatives of the board to meet with Conservation Council president Harry Hyatt, representatives of the Nevada Irrigation District and both the California Division of Forestry and the U.S, Forest Service to discuss such a plan, A report of the results of this discussion is to be presented at the Feb. 16 meeting.
