Ballerina Marcena Welker Marries Wayne Holm By Irene Stoops
The historic Methodist Church
at North San Juan was the setting
fora beautiful Candlelight Wedding at 7 p.m, Feb. 1, when.

Evening Art Classes
The office of the Dean of Special Services at Yuba College
announces that there are openings
in Art Classes to bé given during
the spring semester.
According to Dr. Attwell,
Chairman of the Division of Fine
Arts, the classesin Jewelry, Ceramics, and Elementary School
Art still have some places available.
The course in Jewelry is being
taught by Eduard Mikkelsen,
member of the college faculty,
on Monday and Wednesday evenings from7:30 to 8:20 p.m. The
work deals with the craft of decorative personal jewelry, *such as
rings, pins, pendants, etc. Silver,
wopper, and enamel are used in
the process.

Ceramics will be offered on
Monday and Wednesday night at
8:20to 10 p.m., also by Mikkelsen, Here the student does hand
and wheel building of clays, plus
the glazing, decoration, and firing of the pottery produced.
Dr. Attwell is the instructor
scheduled to reach the course in
Elementary School Art. He will
meet classes on Monday and
Wednesday nights from 8:20 to
10 p.m. The class is reconr
mended for teachers, social
workers, occupational therapists,
and those interested inart for
children. Subject matter deals
with three dimensional projects
such asS-paper sculpture, paper
mache, puppets, sand casting,
plaster projects, and stick sculpture.

members of any of these classes
may contact Yuba College by
phone or at the registration office at ‘2088 N. Beale Rd. any
time during a week-day.
DOCTORS OF ORGANIC AGRONOMY.....Val and’
Lilly Belle Baima, annual winners of sweepstake
awards at area fairs, arenowofficially Doctors
of Organic Agronomy. The degrees (above) were
issued by the Universidad Naturista Internacional
at Vilcabamba, Ecuador. Dr. Johnny Lovewisdom,
who Baima describes as “way out", is operating
the university there---perhaps the answer to his
quest to establish a perfect paradise on Earth.
Leonard Holm were united in marriage at a double ring ceremony.
Reverend DarrellD. Hoyle officiated.
It was the first wedding to be
held in the old church.within the
memory of any living person.
The vocalist was Kitt Orr of
French Corral who sang Greig's “I
Love Thee" and."O Promise Me",
accompanied by Pearl Miller of
North San Juan.
As the organ strains of "The
Wedding March" pealed, the
wedding party came down the
aisle, The bride was escorted by
her father, Wilber R. Welker,
who also gave his daughter in
marriage. The white trellis-type
altar-candelabra were decorated
were decorated with fir boughs
and tiny red cupids.
The bride wore a full skirted
white chiffon ballerina length
gown with a lace bodice having
a boat neckline and scooped back
and long fitted sleeves. Her finger
tip illusion veil was held by a
tiara which the bride had used in
her ballerina dancing career. She
carried a full bridal bouquet of
white carnations with white ribbon streamers.
The maid of honor washer
sister, Glenna K. Welker of Auburn, whowasattiredina red silk
sheath with white aceessories and
white carnation corsage. The
flower girl was the bride's younger
sister, little Miss Le Atha Sue
Welker, whose gown was a full
skirted pink nylon. She carried a
basket of flowers with ribbon
streamers.
The groom's attendants were
Jon Todd of Grass Valley and the
groom's younger brother, Alan
Le Neve of New York, who also
acted as candle-lighter. Ushers
were Tom Hainline of Grass Valley and Randy Welker, the bride's
brother.
The bride's mother, Mrs. Wilbur Welker of North San Juan,
wore a deep blue silk sheath with
matching jacket, black accessories and a white carnation corsage.
The groom's mother, Mrs.
Elanor Le Neve, who came from
Clinton Corners, -N.-¥., for the
wedding, wore a deep blue raw
silk sheath with matching accessories and a ‘pink carnation corsage.
The color theme of white, pink
and red was carried out in the
church decorations. The wall
decorations consisted of red
hearts, pink bows, red cupids and
white doves. The sides of each
pew were decorated with fir sprigs

‘and fir boughs were on the sills of
each of the six windows of the
church. The only lighting was the
altar candles and candelabra, the
candle-lighted windows ahd the
old original oil wall-lamps of the
old church,
The bride, Marcena, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur
R. Welker, Tyler Road, and attended Grass Valley High School.
She is well known as a talented
ballerina and appeared in the
Nevada City Little Theater as
well as at other functions.
The groom, Wayne Holm, is
the son of Elanor Le Neve of
Clinton Corners, N. Y. He was a
graudate of Nevada Union High
School and attended Chico State
and Sierra Colleges, majoring in
agriculture. He is now employed
by the U.S. Forest Service at
Camptonville.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church.
The bride and groom cut the white
heart-shaped wedding cake and
punch and coffee were served to approximately seventy guests by
Linda get, Majorie Phillips
and Christina Turnbough. Mrs.
Mildred Lusk, Bea Leonard and
Lois Azevedo didthe preparation.
Following the serving of refreshmentsthe new Mr. and Mrs,
Wayne Holm, with the assistance
“of'Truma'n and'Sally Bernal,
opened their many lovely wedding gifts.
After the reception the young
couple left for a honeymoon trip
to Lake Tahoe and Virginia City,
after which they will be at home
on Cherokee Street in North San
Juan.
