The warehouse will be located
on the western end of the property,
at right anglesto Commercial St.
The office building, to be built
of concrete block, will adjoin the
northwest corner of the present
main building.
The new office and warehouse
space wil e occupied mainly by
the Alpha Industrial Supply division, which provides major
wholesale servicing in three departments: logging and sawmill
supply, construction supply, and
the new chemical supply.
Added pace and improved
facilities will then be available
-for-garden, hardware, and all
other retail sales, and for parking.
Site preparation for the new
construction is being handled by
HansenBros., while construction
will be the responsibility of
Spanda/Industrial of Sacramento.
The site preparation job isa
major one involving the removal
of existing foundations, cutting
through solid outcroppings at the
rear of the Inter-County property,
relocating a city sewer line and
bridging a city drain which flows
through the property, and a considerable amount of leveling.
Clinch noted that other aspects
of Alpha's operation were being
modernized--namely, the bookkeeping unit, which has entered
the electronic age with the use of
punch-tapes. Data on accounts
payable and receivable will be
punched ontape at the Alpha office on special machines, and
handed to accountant Thomas
Taylor for translation via computer into recognizable Alpha
statements and checks,

to the aid, the program benefits
could then be cut off to that person. Restitution, however, is not
called for under the law, AB59.
The county has four years in
which to upgrade its welfare department to fully comply with
the law, although this must be
done according to an approved
plan.
County estimates as to the increased cost of the program range
to $200,000 per year.
Included in the program is aid
to the unemployed parents of
the needy children, It is under
this section that the four applications have been made.
The advisory committee reported its unanimous and unalterable opposition to the program,
which, however, is law.
Boost Relief
The committee called it "so
poorly drafted, so difficult of interpretation, and so onerous of
application that the financial
ability of this county could very
well be placed in jeopardy should
the board permit the Nevada
County Welfare Director to take
affirmative action thereunder. "
It is unlikely, however, that
the board of supervisors will direct
Mrs. Worth NOT to follow the
law, for the supervisors are (as
indeed the whole county form of
government is) an agent of the
state government,
If the supervisors elected to
violate state law,

could be removed from office,
thereby allowing the governor to
appoint replacements; or
