He cited an illustration where one local manufacturer pays as much to get his product from “here to Sacramento" as he does to get the product from "Sacramento to Chicago". ; Hennessy suggested the county approach the state for an intra~ state rate reduction prior to going to the ICC, Supervisor Don Blake agreed that after recent changes, “It's real high now”. The matter was laid over until a later meeting. Auction Of Houses Set Feb. 13 The public auction for the sale and removal of three houses in the Nevada City-Grass Valley area willbe conducted by the Division of Highways Feb. 18. The properties have been purchased by the state as right of way for construction of the Nevada City-Grass Valley freeway, according to officials at the Marysville district office. The improvements will be open for inspection today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and just before sale time. They will be auctioned beginning at 10 a,m. on their respective pre mises in the following order: 1) House and garage located on Highway 20 east of Nevada City about 500 feet east of Megill's Garage; formerly owned by Virgil Patton. 2) Two-story house and garage at 118 Bush St., Grass Valley; formerly owned by Otis Reifsnyder. 3) House and garage at 114 Mohawk St., Grass Valley; formerly owned by Ida Thomas. > Poster Contest Approximately 300 California students have submitted posters for competition in this year's AAA School Traffic Safety Poster Contest, it was announced today by the California State Automo-’ Association. The posters have been entered by high school, junior high school and elementary students, This year for the first time a preliminary contest will be held locally for students in northern and cen~ tral California and Nevada. The winning posters.from this contest will then be sent to W ashington, D.C. for judging in the national contest. Results of the economic study will provide data and an analysis of ski resort opportunities in the 10 western states and should provide a basis upon which to estimate the impact of such operations upon the local economy. Thethree major objects of the study willbe: To measure present usage and probable future growth of facilities; to identify particular factors connected with successful operations, and to pinpoint favorable areas for ski development. Much of the field work will be completed next winter, including interviews with skiiers and winter sports operators. The final report is expected about July 1, 1965. but maxJune 13 with graduation exercises for sophomores taking their ‘Associate of Arts degree. Registrar Martin Taylor reported 1121 daytime students, another record spring total, up from 1050 last year. Evening school director Frank Van Vliet reported 501 pre-enrolled in eve~ ning sessions for 25 classes, Need Two Months To Complete Repair lines in the event of another disastrous storm. At the same time, the engineers are studying the lines to de= termine what improvements in the system would seem logical to assuring a high standard of service. Skinner reported, after Grass Valley manager Larry Farrell showed slides of PG&E repair work carried out during the storm, that only 2 minor accidents were suffered by the 350 men who worked long hours to restore service asa result of storm damage. He praised the speed with which ‘copters allow ed restoration of power to remote areas, thanked : the supervisors for the aid given by road department workers in making it possible for PG&E access in areas where access could have been even more a problem, and praised his crews for their devotion to service. During the supervisor's meeting Monday, the county officials directed a minute order to the road department calliny tor snow re~moval at all nospitals in the county and at Loma Rica Airport as soon as possible in the event of other storms. Central California FEDERAL Supervisors Drop . Plans For Library Nevada County supervisors indicated Monday that the county will drop further discussion of a county library, since cities in the county have not seemed anxious tojoinin a joint library arrangement. The board indicated the county policy would be "all the way or none" inrelation toa proposal for a combined cities-county library. Roberts said it is possible that some other site might suit the school district's purpose, in which case the “hold” could be released. Left Turn Lane Work Is Completed Construction has beencompleted on a new left turn lane on Highway 20/40 at Hughes Rd. about half a mile north of Grass Valley, according to state highway Officials. Teichert & Son, of Yuba City was contractor for the $12, 000 project and James Oglesbee of Meadow Vista was resident engineer, The project was initiated to relieve congestion for eastbound traffic.
