Imagination and a willingness to experiment when fish won’t bite often produces results when all the proven methods fail. Breaking the so-called rules when they are unworkable is the mark of a wise and usually successful angler, say the fishing experts at Mercury outboards. And, although such things may seem strange or comical, they may be well worth the small effort it takes to give them a try. A tree is a good example. Usually its overhanging branches are a problem, and frequently you'll find a limb that’s been decorated with glittering ornaments by erring casters. Yet, this same limb can be a blessing in disguise.
Using strong line, try casting a fly or bug over the branch and permit it to dance lightly on the surface directly below. It sometimes proves just the thing to excite a reluctant battler. Boating a fish hooked in this manner is more a matter of power than finesse, and you may lose more than you land, but it will work on occasion. Another device calls for the use, of two lures instead of one. Tandem fiy-fishing for trout.is common and extremely effective, yet frequently overlooked. Link two flies together with leader material, one behind the other about four inches. This same idea works with plugs or ‘flies and plugs or bait in combinations. There’s no end of. interesting fish teasers that can be concocted, and often they’re just’ the answer. These are just two deviations that can be tried, observe the Mercury lads, but the list is limited only by imagination. Who knows, maybe you'll find a “sure thing” that leads to a full stringer. U.S. Lumber Production WASHINGTON, D.C.—The nation’s production of lumber, one of our only natural resources which can be replenished, accounts for about:27 per cent of the world’s total lumber production, according to the National Forest Products Association. Let Bo Gold Incentive Bill Is Ready for Debate WASHINGTON D.C. -The Rules Committee has cleared for debate by the House of Rep-resentatives gold incentive legislation co-sponsored by Congressman Harold T, (Biz) Johnson. whose Second, mountainvalley counties, District contains the once-rich gold producing areas which touched off the 1849 gold rush to California. The legislation, H.R. 3274, was introduced by Congressman Wayne Aspinall, of Colorado, chairman of the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, "In waging a battle for new life to the gold mining industry, dl Doan Deemer Johnson comment. powerful House Rules Committee, "this is the furthest we have been along the legislative path." "It is my sincere hope that we can now debate this crucial issue in the full House of Representatives and win approval of legislation which I am confident will give new life to an industry now strangled by federal government regulations and at the same time will help to strengthen the position of the American dollar, ' representative Johnson said. ‘In recent days and weeks there has been considerable discussion about the plight of our nation's gold reserves," the Congressman testified before the Rules Committee during hearings which preceded the granting of a rule on the bill. "While there is great concern about the steadily-declining stocks of gold in our Treasury and its effect upon the American dollar, there has been little recognition of where this gold came from in the first place." Representative Johnson pointed out that gold isa mineral mined from the earth and that in this country it cannot be mined economically at the depression day price of gold, $35 an ounce, which has been in effect since the mid1930's, The veteran Golden State legislator who has co-sponsored the legislation under consideration in the Congress, has argued consistently that since the Federal Government has kept the price urvesnuensooonaane poneusosonsnneencconasuesencaseeeessg CLASSIFIED DISPLAY CLASSIFIED ADS LEONARD F. Once the United States was the world's greatest producer of gold Congressman Johnson testified, but those day are gone. Today only two companies in all of the 50 states produce gold as their principal product, All the rest is produced as a by-product.
