The Nevada County Historical
Landmarks Commission held a
luncheon meeting at the
National Hotel on January 22. A
new member, Robery Slyter of
the town of Washington, was
welcomed.
Chairman, Sally Lewis,
described the progress of the
commissions part in the
Celebration of the up-coming
American Revolution Bicentennial in 1976. Three counties,
Nevada, Placer and Yuba, are
joining in a project to mark and
historic Overland-Emigrant
trail before all traces have
vanished. It is hoped it will be
declared a, National Hisotrical
Trail in time for the 1976
celebration. Appointed on this
committee are: Wendell Robie,
Jim McClain and Jim Abraham.
Of special interest was a
report by consultant, Joe Ruess ,
-on the possibility of the Empire
Mine property becoming a State
Park. He noted that the Landpurchased for a state park. This
marks Commission suggested
this concept to the Newmont
Mining Co. and to William Penn
Mott, of Parks and Recreation,
at the first: meeting of the
commission in 1969.
Sacramento
Chorale at NUHS
‘The Sacramento Chorale will
make their third appearance in
Grass Valley, presenting a
concert Feb. 17 in the Nevada
Union High School girls’
gymnasium.
The Sacramento Chorale is a
professional choir of some of the
finest vocalists in the capital
city area. Only 30 out of more
than 300 who auditioned for the
choir were accepted. The high
standards of membership have
enabled the choir to perform
difficult choral literature.
THE. EMPIRE Mansion is a two story rock and brick home with 14 rooms, a 90

resemble a park and Robert Paine has been spearheading a committee to turn
the properties into a state park.

Engineer Charles de St.
Maurice reported to the Yuba
county board of supervisors that
the U. S. Army Corps of
Engineers has nearly completed
its study of the project.
