February 8, 1967 Penn Valley News J ic Moore Box 3 Mobifohome Ranch 273 -6656 The Penn Valley Eine Church appearsregularly in this column because it is one of the major centers of social activity in this progressive and friendly area, The following is an account of a few things that are underway and on the agenda for the near future. An intensive effort is being made now to ready the building for an earlierthan-usual Easter this year, by interior painting. If sufficient funds become available, a wall-to-wall carpet will be installed over the present concrete floor. A Boys Brigade Battalion is soon to be organized and sponsored by the church membersand friends. The Boys Brigade program is similar to the. Boy Scout program, but the emphasis of the training is placed upon spiritual growth and healthy moralattitudes, It is led by at least two men a Captain anda lieutenant, This church was also chosen to be the hosting church for the 150th anniversary observance of the American Sunday School Union, which will be held soon here in Penn Valley. se ¢ eo @ @ Mrs, Darla Lee Moore, 25, of Penn Valley gave birth to her fifth child or fourth son on January 24at 10:10 P.M, Gregory Boone was delivered at the Nevada General Hospital during a gentle snowfall by Marie Crookshanks, R.N, and the well-known and popular C, Jackson Rayburn, M.D, The baby.weighed an even nine pounds, and had an abundance of long black hairs on his head. Gregory's father is recovering nicely mostly from the unexpected abundance of beip ‘fon sincere friends and nelghbors, Among the persons donat~ ing their time and assistance are: Corinna Kari, Shirley Crom, Pamela Kari, Judy Pierson, and Kathy Kari, all of Penn Valley. ee e¢ 28 According to Tom Stanley, district Commissioner for the Boy. Scouts of America, a "Court of Honor” program is planned for 7:30P,M. on February 8. This special meeting and all regular meetings are open ‘to the interested public, and are held at the Ready Springs School. Mr. Stanley. resides in Grass Valley, Albert Sears is the scoytmaster of our Penn Valley Troop 299, sess ¢ 8 Mr, Jack Planchon is hoping to go fishing sometime this winter along the balmy west coast of Mexico, Infact, a small number of Penn Valley men would like to pool their resources and make a group venture out of this. Part of the reason for this planned trip, according to Jack is to temporarily escape from the present rainy and chilling weather which we are experiencing, here. *eet 8 8 & Robert and Lucille Hauser and children accepted an invitation for supper by some friends of theirs who live in Marysville. The dinmer date was set for January 28. Mr." Jack Bixler ‘hada very tricky bit of eye surgery last week, The surgery was successful and according to Jack, nottco painful, Mr. Hugh Dunbar is in the hospital again, his third trip within the past year for eye surgery. The area will now accommodate 50 persons for either Facilities at the site include a large bar-b-que pit, reer Pyros y water and sanitary conveniences, A delightful cam 1 circle is located nearby, To make reservations for a stay at this area, write to: Historic Park Supervisor, Malakoff Di gs State Historic Park, North Bloomfield, Nevada City, California, © Fees for adult groups using group areas within the State Park system are 25¢ per person with a minimum of. $2.50 per group. The fee for group use by youth or student groups is 10¢ per person or $1. 00 minimum, Present family facilities consist of 12 family campsites for overnight use and the camp picnic area for day use, on a first come, first serve basis, Each family camp site consists of a Drinking water is piped nearby and sanitary facilities are located close by. A camp fire circle table, stove and food. locker. is also conveniently located, Plans are well underway to expand on the family campsites and picnic area, By June 30, 1967 there will be 30 more family sites available, A new picnic area is being located at the Blair where swimming is available.
