The Old French Corral School House, This 110 year old school was built in 1857, It started out life as a hotel and for many years was used for this purpose, When the school district declared it surplus and of no further use as*a.sthool; the bell-in the tower mysteriously disappeared and was not found until the property was purchased by Mrg& Reno Thatcher of Reno, Nevada, She deeded it back to the community and’it now serves as a community meeting house and voting place, There are rumors that the old bell contains more than 200 old type silver dollars melted into its alloy, Certainly its clarion ring can be heard for miles around the old mining camp, bringing the nowaday residents to meetings, We recommend a trip up to Frerich Corral if for no other purpose than to examine this fine : old building whose sides are made from hewn logs, Even today the residents of French Corral . have their differences as is witnessed by the three lawsuits filed last week to clear up an election over the water system serving the community, The vote was so close that it will require court judgement to settle the matter, Senator Kuchel Cites Inequities in Draft Law U.S; Senator Thomas H, Kuchel of California recently complained about apparent “glaring geographic inequities” in operation of the Selective Service System, Citing newspaper surveys in his State, the Assistant Republican Leader joined the call for possible revision of the. draft system by directing attention to variations between the num© ber of inductees relative to registrants in different areas. Kuchel told the Senate that even after allowing for compensating factors which tend to equalize draft quotas there still seem to be discrepancies needing attention from Congress, He said a striking instance is the fact that Riverside County, Calif., supplied 175 percent young men of both areas to serve their country, there appears, nevertheless, to be a significantly greater risk of being drafted in the one county than in. the other, er, "In. the coming. months, ‘the Congress will be called upon to examine thoroughly the effectiveness and the fairness of our Selective System, as well as its costs both in terms of money expenditures and in terms of the utilization in our economy of our most precious possession, America's youth, In the course of this deliberation, care must be given toall inequities, But I would urge that particular attention be given to geographic differences, “ Kuchel ur ged appropriations of whatever “reasonable” amounts are needed “to make our system fair”. : more men for military service GR than Denver County, Colo., in the first 10 months of last year, = although the populations were ~ similar and the Colorado county chad 7,000 more registrants, “America’s young men, their parents, their loved ones, and all who share our interest in the livelihood of our democracy are deeply concerned over reported inequities in our Selective Service System,” the Senior California Senator said, i With reference to the two counties’ mentioned, he added "Assuming an equal. ardor of sake, seeks neither praise nor ° reward, but is sure of both in the end, e868 6 It might pay some parents to know a little bit more about what their offsprings are doing and where they do it, } . ss “IEGAL NOTICE.
