Morning Transcript 3-1-61 EDITOR'S NOTE--Violent death evidentally meant. nothing, in Nevada City in 1861, especially if the victim happened to be a secessionist, as is related. in this account of a shooting on Commercial Street, March 8, 1861. : A man, supposed to be a secessionist, was shot in the neck, the street, where it lay ‘till the sun got around, when he was again moved to a shady place. The wound was serious, and as at a late hour in the evening he had not given any signs of life. PITAPH bling houses and all the et ceteras pertaining to a young and growing California city. Its citizens were restive at being incorporated with Nevada--they were numerous enough to govern themselves, and their future prospects were more dazzling than a double-tinted rainbow. Gradually, but surely it has ’ melted away before the vandal approaches of the miner and of former splendor--but Cayoteville has disappeared forever, and: not a solitary ruin marks the spot where it once existed in imperial magnificence. Sic transit gloria mundi Incident At The Post Office From the files of the Nevada. Transcript 4-25-66, About six months ago, the Nevada City Post Office was removed from Main Street to Broad Street. The fact was published in the town. papers and the old post office closed up and a piece of tin tacked over the hole to the letter box. and took another drink and waited another hour and called back the third time at the office, which he found still closed.
