School Sites
The difference in total: costs
for the three proposed sites
of a new $1 million school for
the Nevada City School District
is approximately $20,000, the
board of trustees learned Tuesday evening.
Architect George Higgins presented approximate costs for
purchase of theproperties,
bringing in sewer lines, water.,,.
power and telephone, rough grad. ing and preparing or widing access roads,
The Bureau of Land Management land, about 17 acres which
the board has approval to buy
off Bost Avenue, would amount
to a total of $72,600, according
to Higgins’ figures,
A second site, 20 acres of the
Champion mine and a continuation of Brock Road would amount
to $92,300, _
A third site, called site C,
would cost $82 000 for 36 acres.
Site C was not pinpointed geographically except as éast. of
Nevada City until trustee H, L.

about it. He told the board and
the public present that he knew
nothing about this property, did
not know the owners’ names
nor where the parcels were, —_
By the tone of his voice he
indicated anger, saying he was
a member of the board yet had
been told nothing about this pro_posed site.
He was told the property is
within one mile of Nevada City’s
city limits and is composed of
two pieces — a nine-acre parcel
and a 27-acre parcel, owned by
two different owners.
Mrs. Harriet Hume, also a
member. of the board, said she
too had been told nothing about
the property’s location or its
owners,
Higgins’ figures indicated the
purchase price of the three were:
. BLM, $100; Champion mine,
$60,000 and site C, $45,000, The
BLM land would require considerably more expense for development, raising its total
close to the others.
